Halloween Books

I like this book for language therapy with preschoolers. Because it is very simple, with few words, it helps the child clue in to the new vocabulary which includes days of the week and some great verbs. I use it to teach regular past tense (Jasper planted, Jasper watered, etc.) and in a different setting present progressive (Jasper is planting, Jasper is watering...) The kids enjoy it and don't realize how much they are learning!

Halloween isn't Halloween for me without Joey the Jack-o-Lantern. Joey is a cute little Pumpkin that wants to be scary for Halloween. He tries to be scary, but as one by one his friends pass by he is unsuccessful. Then on Halloween night Willie Witch Puts a candle inside him. Then as his friends pass one by one they are frightened. "What a Happy Halloween for Joey the Jack-o-Lantern." This book was a hit in with my mothers Day Care, and now in my home. My 3 year old enjoys the story, as do I.

I love Michael Hague's art so I usually snap up anything he does. In this book which is a retelling of a mid-nineteenth century ghost story from Ireland, Hague is in his usual great form with the illustrations. This is a spooky tale with some pretty ghastly imagery that Hague really nails. While visiting the new grave of her mother, poor Kate Culhane accidently steps on another nearby grave and becomes the unwilling servant of its inhabitant as a result. The ghost is a vampire of sorts and requires her to cut her boyfriend and mix some of his blood in with some oatmeal and eat it. See what I mean? Yucky! Kate is a clever girl, however, and she figures a way out of this mess but not until she's really gone through a lot of trauma. Please don't read this to any little kids until you've checked it out yourself. It really is a no-holds-barred ghost story and a good one but I would rather see Hague illustrate a scary story that doesn't have bloody oatmeal in it. But that's just me....

This is a collection of 18 ghost stories. Some are really scary. Others are stories of friendly ghosts! We had never heard any of these stories before. The book says that it's for ages 5-8. I think it really needs to be for kids a little older than that.

Children will love this little book with its funny, joyful stickers. A nice present for kids 3-8

I love this book for my preschool classroom. It's perfect for little ones just learning to read along with a group. The sound-words are definitely a crowd pleaser. Cute story with great recording. However, not much music if that's what you are intersted in.

'Lucy' is a book about a bunny that is unable to hear in one ear, discovering this handicap after playing with friends and going to the doctor. The story is great for kids with handicaps that might feel different but still need to be reminded that they are special and can enjoy life just as much as any other child. Artwork is cute and the story flows well, a nice addition to any child's bookshelf!

My son and I read this book as a read aloud in our homeschool. HE really liked the book. We have read several other books in the series and he enjoyed those as well.

Great book for boys of girls about an adventure that 2 friends have.

I don't quite understand this spooky Halloween book, but my 5-year old loves it. He insisted he was going to get it from the library every week for the rest of his life until I suggested buying it. It has added the words "stupefied," "albatross," and "foolies" to his working vocabulary. The story is a little confusing but it's got a good Halloween spirit and look to it.

I purchased this book because 1) it's Maisy, and 2) I thought it would help my son to learn about Halloween. I do like it, but it definately does not really teach anything about Halloween, and trick-or-treating. Just talks about dressing up in costume. Still, my 19 month-old loves Maisy!!
