I love these books. Although, I would like to see a little more color added to keep the children's interest on those pages with a few more words. We love the content, though. This is definitely worth your efforts. Packed with some great truths on a kids level - not fluff!

This children's book is filled with absolutely beautiful life-like drawings. It tells the adventure of Mousekin meeting a white rabbit. I enjoyed 'Mousekin' books as a child and love sharing them with my daughter now. Mousekin books truely are a treasure.

Excellent Ecumenical Resources For Sermons

Review Date: 2005-11-10
I have been using the "New Porclamation" series for a resource for two years now and "Year A, 2005 Easter through Pentecost" is the fourth book in the series that I have purchased. At times the comments on the readings seem either to be too obvious or too distant from suitability. However, this volume was a bit better than the previous two I had used. I don't expect a source to present me with a prepared sermon. However, covering the readings a second or third time around often leaves me redoing the earlier version. I like a book that tosses out some helpful general thoughts for consideration. When the "New Proclamation" series is at its' best, this is exactly what it does. It is certainly a valuable resource for those who may serve more than one denomination because it clarifies which denominations are using what readings for which Sunday. I noticed that the editors change for each half-year issue which is probably why some seem better than others. However, the whole series has definitely been worth having. I think, however, that after buying the next two, I'll consider my set complete.

A Valuable Asset for Clergy

I have come to rely on the "New Proclamation" as my primary source for guidance whenever I get any sort of block in preparing for the Sunday sermon. We all need help from time to time to redirect our focus when we seem stuck on finding the right message to share. I like the way the collective authors of "New Proclamation" give several directions that our minds might care to follow. They do so without a doctrinaire attitude that closes doors instead of opening them. I will have to state that I found their previous edition to be a bit more helpful. There were a few times I turned to this edition only to come aware just as stuck as when I consulted it. However, it generally follows the same format and gives a person a good overall view of the theme of the day as well as a synopsis of the readings. I recommend it to anyone in the ministry who isn't afraid to listen to other thoughts before finalizing their own.

I have yet to read the whole book, but what I have seen so far looks to be an exciting resource on a much neglected subject. The bios are excellent. I will critique the rest when I have a chance.

sermons for lent and easter

Three lenten sermons offer testimony of witnesses for the prosecution of Jesus: a pharisee, a sadduccee, & a money changer. Three sermons offer testimony in Jesus' defense: Barabbas, Simon Peter, Pontius Pilate. In each of these, the hearer is asked to render a verdict. There are also sermons for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday which follow the same device -- i.e. a verdict is called for.

a woman-activist's view of Irish history
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-16
This very well-written, cogent description of pivotal events in 20th c. Ireland is from a woman-acitivist's point of view but focuses almost entirely on events around her and little on her internal experience of them. At times she says, "I was wild with grief," anger etc., but little else about her own emotional experience to the horrific losses she suffered. While she certainly has her own opinions about individuals and events, she does not belabor the reader with them. Her defense of Michael Collins is unique for an activist of her politics. Her ambivalence toward DeValera is obvious but she is not bitter or mean spirited in any of her opinions of others. This is a very interesting, readable memoir.
