Born in Zamoscz, Poland in 1859, Isaac Leib Peretz (justifiably considered to be the "father" of European Yiddish literature) eventually settled in Warsaw in 1890 and became a leader of the movement within the Jewish community to establish and develop Yiddish as a modern, secular, literary language. Superbly narrated by George Guidall and Suzanne Toren, this six hour, four cassette, unabridged audiobook edition showcases Peretz's short stories including "If Not Higher", "Bontsche Shvayg", and "The Tree Gifts". This impressive presentation is enhanced for the listener's enjoyment with an "Afterword" by Ruth R. Wisse. The Stories Of I. L. Peretz is a superb listening experience and a welcome addition to personal and academic literary studies and audiobook collections.

Wonderful for Children's Sermons !

Our pastor used this as a source for children's sermons and for our church's preschool chapel services - it was a real hit! In addition to the pictures in the book, he had stuffed animals that he passed around to the children which represented the animals. The pictures are colorful, and the depictions of Jesus are very warm and tasteful. You have to get past a bit of fiction in the idea that these animals "witnessed" the events, but if you're willing to do that, you'll find a wonderful teaching tool.

Sunrise Hill is a picture book that commemorates the Christian holiday of Easter. When a town works to build a church in time for Easter Sunday, yet loses all their hard work to a sudden disaster, it takes the wisdom of a young boy to understand that the "real" Easter church is not a building, but rather the faith of the people themselves. The beautiful and warmly colored artwork of Rick Johnson provides Kathleen Long Bostrom's wonderful text with the feel of slightly blurred photographs which add an unforgettable touch to a timeless story.

This book helped me enter the world of children. Every detail is thought from that perspective. It's a kind, loving, creative book that makes doing something all together lots of fun. Very simple and basic instructions, so the kids could figure out how to make the eggs, etc. This Easter book is artistic and let's the kids take off with their own ideas. A happy time. Thanks.

Like many other books, I grew up with this one. This is a book that you can read over and over again and it will never get old. The characters are also good. Within the story, there is a little adventure. It also has a little bit of a conflict. It is an exciting book to read. I think kids everywhere would like this kind of book. The illustrations are also really good. That makes it even more interesting. I thought that this book was a great book. I would recommend to any kids that want an adventurous, but yet interesting book.

If you really want to get to know what Cape Town and surrounding areas were really like in years gone by, then this book is a must! Full of old, colourful characters who made Cape Town. You can almost see the town as it was, hear the music, the people. Smell the spices. L.G.Green is a master of his craft, to understand Africa, read the rest of his works.

This is a great book for Christian families. The illustrations are soft and beautiful. The author is to be commended for the wonderful way she associates common events of spring, with the true story of Easter. For example, a field of blooming flowers is next to the words, "Jesus rose again". On another page, an Easter basket is shown opposite an angel near Jesus' empty tomb. Both pictures show wonderful "surprises". Another positive aspect of this book is that the people are diverse, including ALL (Asian, White, Black, Hispanic, and others)races. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to families who want to make Jesus' gift to us the center of their Easter holiday.

We received a full set of this author's books when our daughter was born. Now, at 18 months old, she loves picking one of these books to read at bedtime with us. These books are simple to read, beautifully illustrated and have a great, Christ-centered message.

I used this book to lead a group of thirty-two adults in a weekly lenten study. The weekly stories were very thought- provoking and well written. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our thoughts as we discussed the questions each week. I have searched for more such studies by Ripski but as yet have been unsucessful.

Timmy isn't getting any Chocolate Easter Eggs,so he wishes for X-ray vision to find some.Vicky knocks people over to find chocolate eggs. He sees a robber robbing a bank, people's underwear, and when the powers wear off,he sees Vicky push over her little sister,Tootie and take all of her Chocolate Eggs, that she found. Timmy gets a handful of his eggs, and puts them down in her basket,to where she lay crying. My favorite part is when she said"Oh,Timmy! My hero! Tootie really loves Timmy. Timmy really saved the day for Tootie.Timmy has another idea,to melt all Vicky's chocolate easter eggs. She deserved it.
