For anyone who lives in Omaha, we all know of the tornado of 1975. The author of this book traces further back in Omaha's history to a tornado that only a few blue hairs would know about or remember. The literary history and the photographic documentation provide a humbling glimpse into the power of a storm that devastateed a town that was struggling to establish itself and it's economy. The story takes us on a journey from Ralston to North Omaha, and show the path of destruction, in both word and pictures, that this deadly storm travelled on that fateful day. If you are into the history of Omaha, or have relatives living out of state from this area, this would make a great read and a great gift.

This book does a good job of gently covering the Easter story, including Christ's death for our sins, while placing it in the context of how most families celebrate Easter. It is a great addition to any toddler to kindergarten library.

Beautiful Easter book.

Here is a picture book for older children that retells the biblical Easter story. It's beautiful pictures have a gentle feel, even when dealing with harsh parts of the story. Starting with Palm Sunday, it goes on to tell of Jesus driving out the money changers, washing the feet of his disciples, sharing the Last Supper with them, and then of his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. We read of the trial that convicted Jesus, the crucifixion, and then of his body being laid in a tomb by those who loved him. The gentle joy of Easter morning, that builds more and more as the good news is spread, is depicted in soft colors, and art that has delightful elements of both realistic and folk art. This story is nicely done, a lovely way to enjoy the Easter story. I love the ending sentiment: "The dark power of death was defeated. God's own love lit the world on that Easter morning."

I am using AdminStudio Professional 6.0. This book provides a comprehensive workflow for software packaging and deployment using the AdminStudio software no matter what version you are using.

I especially liked Chapter 4 - Your First Package. This chapter sets up the framework for following chapters with the concept of the "package template folder" which guides you in the task of taking a legacy package and transforming it into an msi package.

The discussion on the basics of windows installer is great!

The text provides a lot of "How do I do this ...." examples which I really liked.

Highly recommend this text for all software re-packagers.

Essential Lenten Meditations!

Review Date: 2007-02-04
This is a fresh, rich set of short Lenten meditations based on elements in nature that Jesus used as "visual aids" while teaching his disciples: the fig tree, grass, the vine and its branches, seeds, wind, the harvest, and others. All of us -- no matter what our religious tradition -- will benefit from this dynamic young priest's work.

A Hanukkah book that captures the heart of the holiday!

Review Date: 2001-11-06
I have searched high and low for a wonderful Hanukkah story and have always felt something was missing from each one of them...they never seemed to quite hit on what I, as a Jew in Texas, feel at Hanukkah. I am sure many Jewish parents like myself have been waiting for this book....it touches all the bases: the history of Hanukkah, the foods, the presents, but also the conflict with Christmas (which has been treated in a sensitive, positive and even uplifting way in this story). Through the description of one family's eight-day holiday, the book suggests ways to celebrate and treasure each day of this holiday that makes a Jew "proud of your religion." This book also explores tzedakah, sharing, and world community and acceptance. It is truly a celebration of Hanukkah, but even more, it is a celebration of being Jewish. I know my kids--and even myself--needed to hear this as we head into the Christmas season with all it's inherent conflicts and mixed emotions (especially in Texas!!)

Practical Guide through Trying Times

Review Date: 2008-03-11
Context, connections and concrete symbols all come to play in David Crumm's "Our Lent." Writing with his trademark thoughtfulness, honed in a career as religion writer at the Detroit Free Press, Crumm spins the stories and poses questions that deepen the Lenten experience. The context is our present age and the spiritual reawakening that many Americans so clearly feel. The connections are among all of us. Crumm is widely traveled and well-read and taps a diverse range of perspective and experiences for "Our Lent." The concrete symbols -- coins, cups, a bowl, swords -- help make the stories tangible. Each day's reflection is accompanied by one or more questions for reflection. These are good conversation starters for groups, which the book is designed for. However, if you are looking for a solid, rooted way to deepen your faith privately, this book will move you.

Excellent Pastoral Resource

Looking for Lenten sermon material, especially mid-week series? This is certainly one resource to be checked out.

Having did so, am now using this for Wednesday Lenten series. Focuses on the Fourth Suffering Servant Song of Isaiah, 52:13-53:12.

Here is well done exegesis of the text which much theological insight from historical-grammatical study. Along side are sermon helps for six sermons as well as Holy Week and Easter.

This all important gospel section of Isaiah will be clarified by those who refer to this work. Would be most valuable resource for anyone interested in this focal Biblical text.
