I just got home a few days ago from my Chile, Patagonia and Peru jaunt this year. This book was all I expected it to be. Even with our fast sinking Dollar the rates listed were very close to actual and Mr Bernhardson's insights and recommendations were reliable as usual.

This colorful book tells the story of the last week in the life of Jesus. The pictures are bright and hopeful--even the crucifixion segment is handled without being dark and graphic. I like the inclusion of children and women in the scenes. The only thing that could make it better would be more ethnic diversity in the pictures.

My son (3) loves this book. He really engages with the lost little lamb and is very happy when the shephard finds him. It is a great size for him to hold and read. He retells the story now on his own after only a few readings. It has been a wonderful springboard to conversations about Jesus. It is grouped with other Easter books, but I plan to keep it around all year.

The is a very nice book. Beautiful illustrations and rhyming text make this a nice book to read. It only briefly touches on the cross "When Jesus died upon the cross" so I would recommend this book for younger kids. I read it to my 3 and 6 year old. It also makes the connection between spring and Easter which is a nice way to end the book. There is space to "personalize" the book by writing your own Easter poem and prayer if you wish. I like the book enough to buy others in the Arch book series.

The cover says "for ages 4-7", but 6-9 might be more like it. I found this in a local bookstore, but went to Amazon to order more. As a "more than coloring book" it encourages kids to draw their own pictures. A wonderful way to explore the Easter story together. Great for Sunday School teachers--I wish I had found it sooner!

Easter Meditations - On Life and Death and Heaven

Similar to other Bonhoeffer works, the content of this book is taken from several works. The artwork and layout of the book are magnificent and compliment the text beautifully. Even though he was a great theologian, Bonhoeffer was very "practical" and realistic; he understands the human heart and the human condition. This small volume has great depth and a host of valuable insights. I have given it to people who are very sick, those who are dying, and those who simply need comfort. It shows that the mystery of Easter is the mystery of life. It's too bad, however, that it's so expensive. Were it half the usual price, I would buy more to pass out to everyone. Notwithstanding, a wonderful book.

In a nutshell, this is what I think poetry should be. If more published poets wrote like this, I'd probably quit avoiding the poetry section of bookstores.
