After borrowing this book from our local library each Spring, I decided The Easter Book is a keeper and needed to be added to our personal library. The poetry is marvelous, capturing the essence of the season perfectly.

Back Cover Review

It was a preposterous and scandalous wager: In return for a prime piece of horse-flesh, the decadent Lord Vyse would pose as a virtuous Rector in a country village. His cohorts insisted he wouldn't last a week, yet he was actually looking forward to a quiet Easter in the country.

Miss Lily Sterling was puzzled by the new rector; he had a reluctance to discuss his past and looked at her the way no Rector should ever look at a female of his flock. She was determined to unmask this handsome "clergyman" and she would set herself up as his bait!

I learned a lot!!!!

Review Date: 2004-04-01
I checked this book out for my own young children, thinking they would like the "cute bunny pictures". But I learned a lot by reading it to them! learned, for example, how the date for Easter is determined, why do we have baskets, and more. The really cool thing about this book is that it is at a reading level that my struggling 3rd grade students at school can even read! I now use it for reading instruction, plus the pictures are cool for the kids. It is something I look forward to every year. I highly recommend it for children of all ages, read-aloud or independently.

My 11-month old daughter must read this book every night, even though Easter is over! She loves lifting the flaps to see what is behind them, and she enjoys hearing the rhyming storyline read out loud. The small size of the book makes it perfect for her to turn the pages herself.

So he invents and builds a machine that will do it for him. At first the machine is perfect and the eggs are beautiful. But of course , things go wrong and the machine breaks down. Now he will never make it in time for Easter morining. His animal friends from the forest have been watching all the activity in his house and realize that something isn't right and they soon pitch in to help. The Easter Bunny's Secret

Review Date: 2008-09-17
The Easter Bunny's Secret is a delightful story with engaging illustrations! This magical tale demonstrates how the Easter Bunny uses teamwork to successfully deliver Easter goodies in one night - a daunting task without elves and reindeer to help.

Put the book into your child's basket - it will be tough to wait until next year when she can help the Easter Bunny! It is likely that the story will trigger a new family tradition: baking cookies that awaken with the Easter Bunny's special magic to become a part of the Easter delivery team.

Great book for extensive look at the traditions of Easter
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-17
This book is fascinating as it traces the roots to Easter traditions all over the world, many of which we now see in America. The most important part for us was how Christians view these practices and what spiritual significance they had to Christians when they began. This is great for adults and kids alike.

Armoured desert warfare, WW2 Style
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-10
Blockbuster novel of a British crew in a captured Italian light tank led by an ex-patriated American with experience in the Spanish Civil War (the first war where tanks were used to do more than break thru trench defenses.) The British under General Wavell and their Dominion troops have been soundly defeated by the Desert Fox and are in full retreat to the wire at Cairo, leaving only the Australian pocket at Tobruk intact. The crew battles enemy armored vehicles, prowling aircraft, anti-tank guns, Nazi and Italian ground troops and even Nazi panzers not to mention the extreme heat and many hazards of the desert itself. Not only a novel about the cruelty/savagery of war but a novel about survival. I rarely give any books 5 stars but this blockbuster novel deserves it. If you read it plus Robert Crisp's nonfiction work, Brazen Chariots, you should have a pretty accurate view of what desert warfare in armor was like back then.

A GREAT GIFT! Biblically accurate and beautifully inviting.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-20
Together author Crystal Bowman and illustrator Claudine Gevry have created some wonderful die-cut boardbooks with strong Christian themes. This book is no exception.

The book tells about Jesus' life. It quickly explains He was born a long time ago, sent by God from Heaven to Earth. When He grew up, He told people He was God's Son and, if they believed in Him and followed His instructions, they could live forever with Him in Heaven. Jesus performed many miracles. "But some of the people did not understand the way Jesus fit into God's special plan. He hung on a cross and that's where He died ... But Jesus is God so He didn't stay dead." The book ends with a mother explaining to her daughter that this story is true! She then tells her how if we believe and obey, we can see Jesus in Heaven someday.

This book is saturated with vibrant colors. The illustrations are simple and friendly.

What I Like: It's so colorful! It's biblically accurate and perfectly child-friendly. I like the easy transition from Christ's life to His death. Some books assign blame or have disconnected storylines. This book creates a seamless timeline. Also, I appreciate how, other than the cover, this book makes no reference to egg hunts or secular Easter traditions.

What I Dislike: Nothing.

Overall Rating: Excellent.
