I have read all of the Little Sister books, and this is definitely my favorite! When Karen's cousin, Diana comes to visit, Karen is so excited, but when Diana does things that are wrong, Karen gets upset. I would feel the same way if I were in Karen's place. I really suggest that anybody should read this book--especially if you liked the other Little-Sister books!

My two-year-old sleeps with this book. He has loved it almost to death. The cute smiling rabbits inside and very simple rhymes are very appealing. It's a good "counting" book. I am ordering a spare!

Cat chat cds are car ride favorites, and this one is on the top of the list! It's approriate even out of the Easter season, but great to start with in Lent. This cd gives descriptions of Holy Land sites which helps bring home the reality of Christ's time there for the kids.

Father Fichtner's insightful consideration of the motives behind the actions of participants in and witnesses to the crucifixion instills life in long-dead characters. His description of time and place puts flesh on major and minor actors alike, creating an understanding of ourselves, of humankind's capacity for bravery, knavery and love.

Great for grade schoolers!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

I bought this book for my second grader. It is a wonderful children's story of Easter. It starts with a brief review of Jesus helping and healing people. It tells of Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem and starts to tell of how the chief priest and elders started watching Jesus.

The story proceeds with Jesus chasing the moneychangers out of the temple. Judas and his betrayal are discussed. Although not called the Last Supper, the meal and washing of feet are presented. Jesus praying in the garden, His arrest and sentencing by Pilate are addressed.

Following the story, Jesus carries his cross and dies. His body is placed in the tomb. Sunday morning the women find the empty tomb and tell the disciples. Then Jesus appears to the disciples. It concludes with a brief summary of the Easter celebration

For those concerned about graphic details: When Jesus chases the moneychangers, he uses a whip and the illustration includes the whip. There is reference to people "plotting to kill him", "death on a cross" and "terrible way to die". There is also mention of swords and clubs, a crown of thorns and His hands a feet being nailed to a cross. I thought these are necessary points to be made in the Easter story, but they are not over emphasized. There are no illustrations of Christ on the cross.

Amazon lists this as a baby/preschool story. I really think it is more appropriate for a slightly older child. I would strongly recommend this book for the early grade school child (a mature kindergartener thru 3rd or 4th). It has been a step up from preschool level Easter books without being too overwhelming. It has also helped foster questions and discussion.

A fantastic collection of Lenten and Eastertide meditations.

I found Christ is Risen to be a wonderful devotional book for Lent and Eastertide. It is very accessible, with short meditations for each week from Ash Wednesday to Pentecost, and the list of activities in the back is an excellent guide to focusing on the meaning of the season in more ways than simply giving up something. I very highly recommend this book!

Wonderful Family Resource!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-28
This is a wonderful book that really captures the spirit of Easter and helps to shift the focus from chocolate and bunnies to Christ and His Atonement and Resurection. The format is that of a "Holy Week" celebration and has devotional ideas for every day from Palm Sunday through Easter. It is well organized and has many great suggestions for children and adults of all ages. As an LDS parent of two small daughters, I found ideas to start new family traditions that invite the Spirit and keeps the focus on our Savior and the "Good News" we have to Celebrate!

Wonderful Book for all ages and religions

This is a wonderful book that tells of the life of Jesus Christ and why we today celebrate the holidays of Christmas and Easter. This is a perfect bedtime read for children- not too long and beautifully illustrated. Not preachy at all- just a simple, beautiful story that sadly gets lost in today's over commercialization of these two holidays. Highly, highly recommend to parents who want to teach spirituality to their children in simple terms of doing right, helping and loving one another- the way Jesus lived his life.
