Sweet family story

I love this book because of the sweet family message that it gives. Little Bunny is greatly looking forward to Easter, but not just because of the Easter basket she'll receive. This year, little Bunny has secretly prepared Easter baskets of her own, for her mother, father, and baby brother. So after she has the fun of finding her own Easter basket, she has even more fun giving clues to her family, to help them find her gift. And at the end of the day, there is one more surprise, and this one is for Little Bunny from her baby brother! This loving little story is illustrated with soft pastels, and warmly celebrates the joy of giving.

The synopses of this book accurately describe the story line and pictures but I have to add that this story captures the sweetness of the love that can exist in a family so beautifully. The love between the siblings is particularly charming.

Beautiful, Creative and Brings Story to Life

What a beautiful and creative way of telling children about Palm Sunday! Although my child is still too young to fully understand this story (She's one.), I'm thrilled to have it on the shelf so that when she is ready we can read it together. I'm always on the lookout for books that communicate the Gospel in a compelling and creative way. This book does it. The illustrations are superbe too.

I saw this book at the bookstore and had to pick it up. My husband teaches 2nd grade religious class and I teach 7th and 8th. We are always looking for things to bring Jesus to life for our students. When i read this story it really made the beautiful story of Palm Sunday to life for young children. It is told from the point of view of the donkey that Jesus rode into town on and how privledged he felt to have the opportunity to meet and serve Jesus. The same way we should all feel when serving the Lord. The illustrations are also very beautiful and help bring the story to life. A very enjoyable and beautiful book.

I wasn't going to buy this book because it wasn't written by someone from my religion. But I am very glad that I did get this book. The writer is Methodist, but it doesn't make any difference, the book is one of my favorites now. It's well written for anybody in any Christian religion. I really like the prayers for each section.

The book consists of a short series of meditations concerning the Person of the Holy Spirit. It describes the great gift from God of the presence of His Holy Spirit in each human being and relates the meditations to passages of Holy Scripture. An excellent and simply written description of the Hol;y Spirit as a powerful force and source of strength for and who choose to recognize His presence.

My daughter and I enjoyed reading "Menagerie at the Manager" together last Christmas. Linda Allen weaves an entertaining mix of folk lore and legend to share stories about the animals present at the birth of Christ. After having so much fun reading the book, we decided it would be a nice additional and inexpensive present for relatives at Christmas.

Jewel's Reading Excellence Review: A delightful Nativity celebration
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-16
What could it have been like on the Nativity night over 2,000 years ago? If the nativity animals could tell their story about the birth of the Christ Child lying in a manger, what would they tell us? What animals gave their very best gift to the newborn babe? Linda Allen creatively answers these questions, as she depicts nature's celebration, through various cultural stories kept alive by generations; to help make sense out of religious beliefs and their present world.

This is not your typical seasonal Christmas story, but one that is enjoyable all year round. Allen's book is a fascinating read for those who are intrigued by colloquial terms, such as, " a bull in a china shop, cock of the walk, or dog days of summer" originations. The reader is sure to discover what animal wakes the sun each morning and learn about who may have rung the first Christmas bell.

What makes this book so special is Allen's ability to give honor to how various cultures have preserved life lessons through traditional stories, legends, and folklore about the menagerie, for people to enjoy and encourage their religious faith. Scott Allen's fresh illustrations lead the reader to a special vivid view of what the menagerie animals may have looked like on the nativity night.

Reviewer recommends this book for any who loves animals and cultural stories. It would serve as a great educational resource for families, churches, educational institutions and libraries.

This is a fun book with great illustrations. It is fairly seasonal in nature with the Easter Bunny involved. Milo, as a giant bunny, didn't feel accepted, but he learned he was a great bunny with the help of the Easter Bunny.

In Stephen Krensky's Milo The Really Big Bunny Milo just wants to be like the other bunnies, but he's the biggest bunny any bunny has ever seen and he just doesn't fit in. Plus, he's purple. Milo feels badly, until the Easter Bunny announces he needs a helper...and he's determined to be that helper, no matter what! Excellent Book!

Review Date: 2004-03-14
First of all, this book just looks fun! It is shaped, has many bright colors, and it SPARKLES!! This is a book that you will not mind reading several times. It also has a great message. It begins with, "The colors in this basket are my own special way for me to tell the story of that first Easter Day." Kids will hear the TRUE story of Easter in a fun, colorful way. By using the many colors commonly found in Easter baskets, the author takes us through the entire Easter story. From the green palm leaves, to the purple wine, to the red blood, to the brown cave, to the white angel, to the yellow sun. Each section is presented in rhyming format. "The purple in my basket reminds me of the time that Jesus shared with his friends a meal of bread and wine." In addition, the children depicted in this book are very diverse, which is an added bonus. This book shows asian, black, white, and biracial children, all experiencing the love of Jesus. A unique and welcome accomplishment.

Had I seen it years ago, my daughter would have owned it

If I had encountered this book when my daughter was young, she would have owned it. The structure is a basket containing a white rabbit, chocolate rabbit, a chick, flowers and Easter eggs. These items are depressed, so as the thick pages are turned, the items are "removed" from the basket. The pages are very colorful and the "basket" items sparkle, features that will capture and keep the attention of young children. The text, which appears in captions at the bottom, explains the religious significance of Easter.

As the thought of von Balthasar starts to be absorbed now by the attentive public (like me), we will see that here is something nothing less than thrilling. We can see theology actually developing in the most radical and foundational way, in utter and profound faithfulness.

This is a brilliant piece of scholarship drawing from the deepest wells of Biblical interpretation, traditional theology, and rigorous philosophical thinking. Balthasar confirms for me that the most sophisticated and original thinking is done 'on route' of tradition rather than in wandering away from it. Thinkers and believers of all sorts, especially Protestant Christians (which I am) will find serious intellectual protein in this masterpiece.

Have you ever wanted to learn how hard it is to be a black slave in the 1860s? Well you need to read, Out From This Place. Easter (the main character) escapes from the Confederate soldiers to the Phillips plantation. There she finds Rose (bestfriend) who then takes her in. The next night they gather a whole bunch of slaves including Ray (the "leader") and Jason (Easters "son" who she has taken care of since he was a baby) to the Yankee Islands where they can be free. When they get to the islands they are transported to the Williams plantation to work. Their cabins are a mess but they make good money (a silver dollar a week thats good for a slave) and get to keep the land that they work on after the war. Ray teaches Rose and Easter how to read and write. Soon after that a teacher comes to the plantation and asks if Easter would like to go to an all black school in Philadelphia. To find out what happens next you have to read the book. I really liked this book a lot because it gave me a lot of insight on how it was to cope with being free and not being treated fairly. I really enjoyed this book and I hope you will to.
