Easter Books

This is an excellent map. It shows all the roads on Easter Island, all the streets in the town of Hanga Roa, the sites of the moai and other points of interest. It is detailed and easy to read. Anyone going to Easter Island should have this wonderful map.

Was very helpful. Don't go on guided tours. With this map and a rental vehicle ($60 a day) you will have a terrific time. Spend at least a week. Leave by nine a.m. and you will have the quarry to yourself. An hour later all the tour groups start arriving and by 11:30 the hoards are everywhere. With you own vehicle you will stop at lots of places not visited by the tour groups.

This Easter sourcebook is the work of many hands. Editors Gabe Huck, Gail Ramshaw, and Gordon Lathrop worked with contributions from a host of people as well as artist Barbara Schmich to put together a wonderfully thoughtful, spiritual and enlightening collection of texts, songs, prayers and meditations from Easter Sunday through to the Pentecost, the fifty days of Eastertide.

One will not find a typical traditional liturgy here, but one who is experienced in such will not find this a foreign structure, either. Passages from all parts of the traditions and history of Christendom Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant are represented here, from ancient pieces to modern (Augustine to Luther to Brian Wren), including prayers, hymns, canticles, prose passages and scriptural readings. There are also pieces from outside the tradition (quotations from Rabbinic legends, James Baldwin, Emily Dickinson, for example).

Each week is developed around a theme; these themes include (in order) Creation, Table, Ark, Pasture, Garden, Palace, Temple and Pentecost. 'Here are texts to help in keeping the fifty days of Eastertime, the great pentecost, the space of rejoicing. They are drawn from sources new and old to cast light on the liturgy and the life of these days and to assist in communal and private prayer.' One can choose to read these straight through, read them in different portions throughout the day, or use them selectively as part of group worship events. I use these books (and the companion volumes produced by the same press for other seasons in the Christian calendar) as part of the worship and liturgical planning process at my chaplaincy.

At the conclusion of the book is an Order for Daily Prayer that may be utilised by those not versed in such traditions - Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Orthodox will certainly be familiar with the pattern. The texts themselves are largely developed by, and thus influenced by in considerations, a Roman Catholic group; some of the readings, for example, are geared toward RC lectionary cycles. Apart from this, however, there is nothing that ties it to particular denominational requirements, and is thus a great ecumenical tool.

This volume fits in well with the other books in the Sourcebook series from Liturgical Training Publications (a series which now includes similar sourcebooks for Lent, Triduum, Advent and Christmas, in addition to non-season-specific books on Baptism, Liturgy, Marriage, and Death).

This is a great resource for planning, for private devotions, and for public worship and celebration of the great mystery of the resurrection.

An Easter soucebook is a companion for the 50 days between easter Sunday and Pentecost. Published by Liturgical Training of chicago, this is another in the terrific series that highlights the "high" liturgical seasons, the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Eastertide. This volume is actually slimmer than the volume for Good Friday alone{in the triduum sourcebook} It contains short readings from a variety of souces{Biblical readings, church fathers,TS ELIOT. For the 4th day of Easter{a representative day] the readings are: Genesis,thomas merton,joseph addison[18th century poet]psalm 19,- Johm 9:1-7,Francis of assisi,charles wesley,joshua10,isiah 60,and balthasar fischer.You probably cant do much better than this compilation. Another excellent job from Liturgy Training Publications.

This is a wonderful book with stickers. What kid doesn't love stickers? Both boys and girls love the Miss Spider characters. A great buy.

The time has come for the Lily Fair in Sunny Patch, the community's own little version of Easter. Everybuggy is headed to Primrose Park for a special celebration. The kids are especially excited that the prospect of finding candy eggs, left by the Lily Fairy. These eggs are made with a special ingredient, love.

This is a "Miss Spider" Sticker Story, allowing the reader to decorate the story. There are sets of stickers for each page. The reader can create the scene as desired, or else use the stickers as they like. Many of the stickers include glitter.

What a great book to explain the Easter story to your kids. Simple, easy to read and sweet. Your kids will fall in love with Nathanael.

Parents of Christian families don't often know how to let their children enjoy holidays like Christmas and Easter without perpetuating the myths of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. With The Resurrection Rabbit, the author uses the adorable bunny, Nathanael, to show what really happened on "resurrection" Sunday, Easter.

The book features colorful and thoughtful illustrations and the story is told in a fashion that allows for families to read it together. In addition, it is notable that the illustrations of people were multi-ethnic; making any child feel at home. All too often, the Christ-child and the man, Jesus, are portrayed as lilly white Swedes. I appreciated the author and illustrator's sensitivity to this as many minority families cannot find books that their kids can relate to.

I look forward to future titles from the author. The rear cover indicates that future books, describing topics that face todays families, will be available in a "Life Lessons" series.

The Resurrection Rabbit would not only be great for your family, but also a great basket stuffer for grandparents, aunts, uncles and others to give at Easter time.

This was a wonderful book that our family enjoyed sharing during this past Lent. We read a story each night either at dinner or later in the evening. The stories of Jesus's life are told from the view point of a child growing up in His time. They were easy to understand and thoroughly engaged my children. If you are seeking a way to bring your child a little closer to Christ this book will help, and the stories can be read any time of year.

I enjoyed the stories that teach about Jesus and the time he lived. They can be enjiyed by the entire family.

I think that Garfield the Easter Bunny is a great book. It isanexcellant story that I would reccomend for people of all ages. Thefirst time I read it, I nearly laughed my head off. It is a very funnybook, and I feel that anyone who reads it would like it. I think that if you are an avid Garfield fan, or are just bored andf need something to do, that you should pick up a copy of Garfield, the Easter Bunny.

In this Easter tale Garfield wonders where the Easter Bunny is and he and Odie go to find him. To their dismay, the Easter Bunny is not doing his job, his feet hurt, his back hurts and he is just plain tired.
Garfield decides he will help him out and goes off to deliver Easter candy and eggs along with Odie.
He finds out just how hard the job is, but the day is saved when the Easter Bunny uses a little Easter magic. Cute story, great illustrations, with a good lesson for little ones as well. Things are not always as easy as they seem.

I saw the corner of the book in a local store and it caught my eye. I picked it up, opened to a page and immediately knew I was going to buy the book. I was moved by just ONE page! This book is a great visual for children and adults as well. Everyone can learn about the love of Christ through this book. This book is a fantastic description of God's surprising way of achieving great things in amazingly humble ways. We had checked it out from the library so many times that we decided to buy it! For all of the adults out there, it is also wonderful for sermon preparation!

Very sweet books that are simple, fun and easy for small child to turn the pages by themselves since they are a board book style.
My 22 month old has the whole Gossie collection since she can't get enough of it.

Gossie's Busy Day is yet another wonderful toddler book featuring the gosling Gossie and her friends. The illustrations are whimsical and the text is simple and engaging. My granddaughter loves these books, and I love sharing them with her.

I purchased this book to use for RCIA. We did the "Why are you crying" meditation, and it deeply touched all the participants. I will definately use this book again. The meditations are easy to use with well written instructions, reflection questions, and optional art expression projects to do following the meditations. Our participants especially liked the art expression excercise. It gave them time for some out-pouring of what they experienced during the meditation, and then were able to share with the group.
I highly reccommend this for anytime of the year, as each Sunday we celebrate the Paschal Mystery.
If you are looking for an alternative type of prayer for your group or yourself, buy this.

During my years as a secondary religious studies teacher, I found Jane's meditations to be an extremely helpful aid in the goal of introducing teens to the practice of prayer and contemplation. The response of my students to these meditations was tremendous, and they were sincerely grateful for such genuine experiences of personal prayer. I highly recommend them to any catechist or religious educator. If you can get all of the various editions of Jane's guides, you will find that each of them fills its own niche for the various seasons and celebrations of the liturgical year. Once I arrived at Boston College to do doctoral work at the Institute for Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry, I was delighted to find that Jane and I shared classes together! She is a person of faith and energy and her work is to be applauded. Try it with the teens with whom you work and you will be amazed at their positive response.

If you've lost a child you'll find inspiration and emotional acceptance as you journey through Popio's grieving process. If you know someone who is grieving and you don't know what to say or do: Heart's Rest is a wonderful, compassionate offering.

This is a wonderful book for anyone who has lost a loved one, but most especially for a grieving parent. Popio leads us along the steps she took to recovery from the loss of her young son, in a matter-of-fact way. Her pain shows though, but the account is never maudlin. The little bits of verse beginning each chapter are well chosen and may find their way into your scrapbook.
