The theme of the story is a universal one that subtly teaches us that the golden rule is larger than any one person or any one country. It is thought provoking on many levels, even though its primary audience are elementary aged children. The illustrations were wonderful and the writing flowed marvelously. I highly recommend this book to parents

Earth Day - Hooray! is a book which combines the social studies topic of Earth Day and recycling with math ideas and place value. Kids enjoy the book as if it were a puzzle and the topic can be included in many topics, not just math. This is important because I teach ESOL and math isn't always considered a topic I am supposed to teach. The book allows me to cover social studies and language concepts and include math tips also.

The kids LOVE it

My kids LOVE this book even though they are younger than the recommended age. Easy to follow story goes well with the math. Teaches how even kids can help clean up the earth. The kids ask for it to be read over and over again!

hello, sandra dorsey here its getting so..there are certain reading materials out there that i look for..as they are the only things that have hit the nail on the head as to whats going on...mind you, not many people see it..or even notice it... when i mention some oddities...people tell me im NUTS...imagining this...and or...i refuse to "change with the times"..in other words..Old fashioned.. i do get SO tired of reading and hearing from all walks of life..and various other readings..(especially by david allen lewis) that if we dont tithe/and or give 10 percent of what we really dont have ..we wont be saved..(least thats whats implied in his prophecy 2000 book..) i look at things like this..(tho i dont go to church, cant quote the bible..i do read, learn, observe all thats going on..and learn..watch and wait... something else..i dont practice/follow pagan holidays to include xmas..however...this xmas song does apply to ALL those churches out there that beg for money..imply people over looked on being saved till the very last being picked if they dont give money..the song is.."the littel drummer boy" alls he had to give was him playing his drum for the baby jesus..and playing his best for him..and the baby jesus, and mary, etc..were more than pleased/happy with that... to bad churches, congregations, and people alike cant see/understand/comprehend that..and preach it.. i believe in the the AAlmighty....and I believe in his 2nd coming...and its working to a head now.. so, i read, watch, wait, listen..and observe, learn..and do the best that i can..and try to be the best person/representative of GOD that i can.. (tho i aint perfect..many faults..i do slip once in the while)

i rate this book..and all others by this group so far that ive read..a "5" excellent material..and very true is one is awake..and can see over the blindness

I am using this book at any job site, written very simple and clear, and used a lot graphs, tables, pictures and useful formula. This book makes easy to understand geotechnical engineering by categorizing different subjects. I recommend any geotechnical engineer should be have one of this handbook in the own library.

I have found this book to be a good place to jog my memory on topics which I haven't dealt with recently. I have also used it as a starting point for a more detailed review of a given topic. When you consider the high prices of many geotechnical engineering references (as much as $350 to $499 for some 'handbooks'!!) this book is well worth the money. I highly recommend it.

Soup to Nuts Guide

This book covers a vast amount of information in the typical Dummy fashion. If you know nothing about living a green lifestyle, Green Living for Dummies will teach you the basics and lots more. Because of the breadth of this book, virtually everyone will learn from it.

The book begins like most green living books do, with an overview of the importance of being green for our deeply troubled Earth.

However, unlike most eco-friendly books I've read, this one covers the gamut:

Green at Home: includes a section on detecting and banishing health hazards like asbestos and lead.Basics on green remodeling and building and on green cleaning.

Chapter on garbage. This was great, as part of the problem is the proper disposal of unwanted stuff. Includes how and what to recycle, including what to do with the problematic computers and cell phones.

Chapter on growing your own food.

The chapter on how to purchase the best green and ethical food was excellent.

Subsequent chapters included green clothing, ethical investments, donations and banking.

Transportation, green travel...

Even working in a green environment was covered.

Like I said, a green soup to nuts books. Lots of good, current information. Highly recommended.

This creation story from the Mien tribe of Laos provides an intriguing tale of a competitive pair who use the Mien people's embroidery as a pattern to create earth and sky. The siblings work in secret only to find their patterns don't fit together. Samples of traditional stitches and Mien embroidery patterned endpapers accompany a fine creation story.

A magnificently presented story

Nancy Raines Day adapts and retells a Laotian creation story in Piecing Earth & Sky Together. Beautifully illustrated throughout with full color artwork by Genna Panzarella, the story told by a Mein Grandmother is of a very competitive pair who use the dinstinctive embroidery of the Mein tribe to creat the arth and the sky. Because both siblings want to make their part of the world the most beautiful, they work in secret until it is finally time to reveal their handiwork -- only to discover that their two pieces don't fit together! Faam Toh solves the problem by stiching the favric into mountains, rivers, gorges, and valleys. Only then do the earth and sky fit perfectly, allowing all the plants and naimals to thrive. Piecing Earth & Sky Together is a magnificently presented story that would grace any school or community folklore collection for young readers.

Did you know that octopi are as smart as dogs? Or that Viperfish have 350 lights in their mouths? You'll find these and more interesting facts in SEA MONSTERS, the companion research guide to DARK DAY IN THE DEEP SEA. Discover old sea monster legends, info on squids, octopi, and other animals in the abyss. Also learn about prehistoric sea monsters, and exploration of the deep sea. I've met the Scientific Consultant for this book, Dr. Sonke Johnsen, he said that "The world will need thousands of new Marine Biologists, because we've only just begun to explore the mysteries of the deep sea." I'd highly recommend this book to all fans of the MAGIC TREE HOUSE series, especially kids ages 7-12, who are interested in Deep Sea animals.

It's very impressive to have all of these books, so varied in their style and scope, all in one big collection. While not all of the works will suit everyone's taste or reading preferences (being very different), you certainly do see how broad and influential new humanist thinking can be. From short stories, to essays on the scheme of the consciousness, to beautiful meditative passages in the Inner Look, these are the works that millions of people in the movement of New Humanism are reading and studying and debating, and building from. I recommend you get this one big book and work your way through it according to what seems most interesting to you (the stories, the philosophy, the psychology, the book on myths, etc). Personally though, I'd start with Humanize The Earth, reading it slowly, and even better with others.

They are writings that I come back to over and over again.

I bought this book so that I had something winter-timeish to read to my 2 year old. It's excellent. She asks for it again and again. Milbourne even describes how snow forms at an appropriate age-level and in an appropriate way. It is a very good book and I highly recommend it! I would say that this book is for 2-6 or so. I'm not sure on that high end, maybe higher depending upon if they are reading it themselves. But, it's definately something for a 2 year old to grow with/into.
