My grandson's birthday is on Earth Day, so what more appropriate could this book be? Each child in his Kindergarten class
donates a book to the class on their birthday, so I bought him this book to take to his class. You can not imagine what a
hit it has turned out to be. The children read/sing it everyday. The pictures are fantasic and the narrative beautiful. This
book rates 5++++ stars!!

Librarians and teachers looking for a great theme book to share on Earth Day will delight in this one. The lively rhyme may
be sung to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas. The animals portrayed have all been brought back from the brink of extinction,
which proves the effectiveness of conservation programs, and the gentle, detailed illustrations portray a dazzling variety
of ecosystems. It will complement any teaching shelf.

Earth Day Birthday is a beautifully illustrated picture book for young readers, demonstrating the wonder and importance of
the planet's varied environment and the amazing creatures who thrive in it. The text by Pattie Schnetzler is patterned after
the popular "Twelve Days of Christmas" song; each two-page spread features lavish color illustrations and lyrics such as "On
the eighth Earth Day Birthday the wide world gave to me... / Eight cranes a-dancing / six owls a-hooting / five spotted fawns
/ four salmon leaping / three panthers creeping / two grizzlies sleeping / and a bald eagle in a blue sky." The final two
pages offer a brief history and incentive to celebrate Earth Day, as well as the simple music for singing aloud. Wonderfully
enhanced with the artwork of Chad Wallace, Earth Day Birthday is a counting book classic to share with preschool and kindergarten
age boys and girls.

This is one of my all time top three books. It is entertaining and well written, but most of all, I found it incredibly insightful.
I first read it about a decade ago; have reread it at least twice and given it as a gift on many occasions. Enjoy!

A fascinating book about the author and his new wife "roughing it" on an island in the South Pacific. They lived in a hut
that they made themselves, ate only what they picked from trees or killed, and had no contact with the outside world.
The most interesting part to me though, was the authors quest for God. He seemed to really want to believe, and while his scientific knowledge would not let him interpret the bible literally, he felt that nature was so beautiful and complex that is had to be created by a higher power.

Simply one of the most heart-wrenching and haunting true adventure stories ever written. I was so moved after reading this
wonderful book that I could hardly think of anything else for weeks. Nearing the end of this book, I was choking back tears,
as Mr. Heyerdahl touches upon truths so profound that they are mind-boggling. He shows us the things that our society has
tried so hard to forget. He powerfully reminds us why we should not ignore the trouble our planet is in. Thor Heyerdahl has
to be one of the best people who has ever lived. Only a very, very, great man could write a book like this.

I'd just like to second the comments from "a reader from USA" above. This book is so much more than is stated in the synopsis.
While it begins as a very enjoyable adventure and exploration story, it takes the reader beyond the adventure to truths about
the present and future that are insightful, important and stated in a way that is compelling to say the least.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Down to Earth', the war memoirs of Squadron Leader Kenneth Butterworth McGlashan, AFC, co-written with
Owen Zupp. Mr. McGlashan has the distinction of having been in the 'right' place---'right' being a relative term, I guess,
as he had to do a lot of fighting-- to take part in many of the major battles of World War Two, from Dunkirk through The
Battle of Britain, Dieppe, and D-Day. He then has more adventures flying transport aircraft. His story is told in the way
most World War Two veterans tell of their exploits, as if these herioc deeds were just another job and no big deal. McGlashan's
humility makes his story all the more readable and enjoyable. Even his wooing of his future wife takes time and effort as
the quiet charm of the young pilot grows on the lovely girl he courts.
McGlashan is now retired and living in Australia, and a fitting end to this book sees him paying a pilgrimage to his old Hawker Hurricane, crashed on the beach during the evacuation of Dunkirk.
I think the thing I enjoyed most about this book is McGlashan's conversational style, his disarming modesty, and his humor. I felt after reading it that this is the kind of chap I'd like to sit down with and have a few beers, and just listen to him talk for three or four hours. These men truly were 'The Greatest Generation', and I applaud co-author Owen Zupp for helping bring this important story to light.

I usually rave and rave about wartime aviation memoirs because, to me, they are such a privilege to read. However, Down To
Earth is more than that. Sure, it's great that the author has shared this story with us but, at the end, you come away feeling
like you know Mac and wishing you could shake his hand.
Kenneth McGlashan flew over Dunkirk and, through self-admitted inexperience, walked its beaches after his Hurricane was shot down. He is young, 19, but mature. Further trips over Dunkirk follow and he evolves into an effective single-engined fighter pilot. The Battle of Britain follows during which Mac's squadron is posted for an intriguing interlude in Ireland chasing German Condor long-range maritime patrol bombers. Here, his desire to pass on his knowledge surfaces and his commitment and drive to better himself as a leader and pilot is evident. He returns to England and flies cats' eye night fighter ops where he has to rely on his skill, eyesight and a lot of luck. Over time, Mac finds himself working with searchlight-equipped Boston/Havocs, the next great idea in night fighting to prove unsuccessful but nevertheless exciting when flying close formation with a bomber at night. Finally, though, he finds himself posted to a Mosquito night fighter unit and, at last, an effective way to hunt at night. What follows is a love affair with the Mossie, a harsh lesson on single-engined flying that sees him in hospital and determined to learn and teach what he can about "assymetric" flight, continuing anecdotes of the great men he flew with, an amazing sojourn with BOAC in the Middle East, flying during the invasion of Europe, training, raising a family, the end of the war, successful command of a Mossie squadron, award of the Air Force Cross, transfers, time in Cyprus and living around the world. What a life!
The writing is relaxed and so easy to follow. It is casual but evocative, regularly amusing but equally poignant. Mac certainly made the most of his scrapes over Dunkirk, his lucky escape over Dieppe and his serious crash in the Mossie. He learns from his mistakes and adventures as indicated by the fact he flew operationally for more than four years, more or less. His revisting the scene of his Dunkirk incident brought a lump to my throat as he relived the events of that day surprised he could remember such minute details. Mac's stories are supported by excellent memories from his wife, Doreen, adding a very personal aspect to the reading.
The author comments that the restoration of Mac's Hurri, R-for-Robert, is a fitting tribute to the man. I think it is fair to say, so is this book.

My daughter received the Snowy Day as an early Christmas present this year-which is an AWESOME book. Because of that, I requested
the Rainy Day, as well. These books are wonderful-amazon recommends for 4-8, but my 2 year old loves them. My daughter has
always loved books over any other toy, though. They are made of a heavier-duty paper then the typical book and the cover
is a little bit puffy, so they are durable enough to put up with a toddlers inquisitive hands. These books explain some of
the science behind what's happening incorporated into an entertaining story. What a GREAT idea! AND the illustrations are
wonderful, too!

The story of "Father's Day" is one of persistence, survival and stubborness. Vihlen is a very brave man--Korean fighter jock,
airline pilot, and TWO-time, record-setting trans-atlantic sailor in a "miniboat." Very interesting to get into this guy's
head during his long ordeal. A good read...not just a trip's diary.

This book was the best read I have had in quite a while. One does not need to be a sailor at all to enjoy this TRUE tale of

it to anyone! Good Luck in 2002 Hugo!

I am by no means the sailing type, as I wont go into any water unless it is crystal clear and I can see what is swimming around
me. So, this book is not just for the ocean savvy! This is a true story of a man who sails the smallest sail boat EVER accross
the North Atlantic Ocean. His boat is under 6 feet long. After spending over 2 months at sea, he finally docks in England.
This book is the sailors actual journal logs from his long trip.. The emotions go from excited to depressed, to almost hallucianite.
This is one of the best books I have ever read, and would highly suggest it to anyone who likes REAL LIFE stories. If anyone
knows the author, please have him email me at my address! WOW! What a book!

I loved this book as much as his Purpose Driven Life bestseller. Rick Warren has a way of writing that is simple yet profound
in bringing out the most important points we must consider in our Christian experience. This book is vital in tackling the
struggle we face in our culture that drives us to isolation and independence, when God's truth reveals that we function so
much better when we do life together...involved with other people, committing ourselves to each other, supporting and encouraging
one another and just being together sharing life through good times and bad. He shines the light on the Scriptures that urge
us to do life together, and gives us perfect bites one day at a time to consider and implement daily as we seek to be more
like Christ and live a life that God desires us to live....one that is focused on relationships. I found that as I made a
commitment to other people in my Small Group Bible study, my joy and peace has increased ten-fold. Doing life together really
is Better..Together. Thank you Rick Warren, and thank you Lord!

Author: Davis A. Young
Dr. Davis A Young, a scientist with outstanding academic credentials and a throughly orthodox, evangelical Christian, has presented in this volume solid and convincing evidence for the thesis that the earth is an extremely old planet created by God. This book demonstrates how well-meaning creationist (Dr. Young is also a creationist in the term) have misrepresented the evidence of geology in their attempt to argue that the earth is only a few thousand years old.
It is important in our time to give serious consideration to both biblical and scientific evidence. In this book, Dr. Young carefully examines the evidence and finds that it does not support the young-earth view.
Because of the literature advancing biblical catastrophism, the interest of Christian layman, and attempts to introduce the catastrophist view of earth history into public school curricula, the Christian community should seriously consider this issue of the age of the earth. Does the biblical and scientific evidence support the idea that the earth is extremely young or does the evidence indicate otherwise? Has the earth experienced a brief sudden catastrophic history dominated by a single global flood or has it's history been vastly longer and somewhat less spectacular? In this book the author examines some of the evidence of nature that relates to the age of the earth.
Part I of the book surveys the history of Christian thought with regard to the age of the earth.
Part II deals with the stratigraphy, sedimentation, the Flood, radiometric dating, the earth's magnetic field, and geochemical arguments.
Part III is an appeal to the facts that make the young-earth view untenable.
Dr. Young firmly believes that the continued promotion of the young-earth view will in the long run damage the credibility of Christianity and thus hinder our evanglistic and apologetic efforts.

This book contains a history of how Christians viewed the age of the earth, the nature of methods of dating sediment, and
reasons why the idea that the earth is young is false. It is a good book for any Christian wondering whether he must choose
between believing in God or accepting evolution and the idea that the Earth is billons of years old. This book will also
be good reading for scientists being drawn away from God by fundamentalism and young-earth talk.
