Latter-Day Spies is the kind of series that I wish I could read to my kids every night! Michele Ashman Bell has a talent for
keeping the tempo from dragging and presenting a new twist in almost every chapter. She also includes some fun science and
magic tricks as part of the story. I would recommend this book (and her other Spyhunt book "The Dragon's Jaw") to anyone age
8 and up.

I own a few of the indexed leather bound quads. They are quality scriptures, including the KJV Holy Bible, Book of Mormon
translated (written by) Joseph Smith Jr, the D&C (Doctrine and Covenants), and the Pearl of Great Price. The pages are acid
resistant and thin - so the only downside to these scriptures is that they are easier to tear, but they last through the years.
I still own my scriptures from my 8th birthday (I'm 25 now) and the pages are still crisp and in good condition as well as
the binding. :)
Since the quad does list the additional 3 LDS Standard Works - I would not recommend this to someone in search of JUST the Holy Bible. But if you're investigating the LDS church, a fresh new member or been one awhile, or purchasing a gift for someone who is in any of these stages of their life - I highly recommend the quad. My favorite is the compact thumb indexed because of it's convenient size (in comparison to other quads) and the indexes make it user friendly. :) There is a Bible Dictionary, maps, and Topical Guide in quads as well that make the book even more user friendly.

This is a fantastic book with practical, how-to examples of leading effectively within the church. If you have challenges
motivating those you serve, (including home teaching, etc) this will help you solve them. It is a must read in my opinion
for anyone serving in a leadership position within the church. I also recommend reading Counseling With Our Councils: Learning
to Minister Together in the Church and in the Family in conjunction with this book.

This book by Brother Cook is possibly the best volume to have to get honest and compact historical background for each section
of the Doctrine and Covenants. It has been well researched and thoughtfuly organized. It is a must have for scholar or hobbiest
interested in the history of the Doctrine and Covenants, Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the LDS church, we hang on every word that the prophet Joseph Smith wrote or uttered, yet very few people know that he
wrote a (quite long)poetic version of section 76 of the Doctrine and Covenants that adds insight and clarification. It is
a beautiful restating of what Joseph Smith called "The Vision" and which President Wilford Woodruff called "a revelation which
gives more light, more truth, and more principle than any revelation contained in any book we read." This book provides you
with a fascinating look at this virtually unknown treasure and gives you a deeper understanding of one of the greatest revelations
ever recorded.

This book, now 'eons' old, has withstood some weathering, but people now are a)considerably more cynical about religion b)
wish to form their own opinions regarding things, religion included.
Most books by LDS/Mormon leaders are hopelessly biased in-with the myopic POV of Mormonism, and readers not knowing that may not notice some-many of the subtlties. The nature of the Godhead (trinity) will strike many Christians as an example.
What also comes thru is the authors adoration of Christ; the gestapo-like tactics / practice of the LDS church in 'enforcing' their beliefs have become Much more pronounced in the years since this book was written....

Walter Kasper was, prior to his elevation as Bishop by John Paul II, a professor of theology. John Paul recently named Kasper
a cardinal and he currently is the Vatican's chief spokesman for Jewish-Christian dialogue.
Kasper's JESUS THE CHRIST (1974) remains one of the more comprehensive surveys of Christology in print. All of the central issues in Christology are touched upon. The focus is on the New Testament teaching, but there is discussion of later doctrinal developments and Kasper interacts with other theologians (such as Bultmann and Tillich).
What is most surprising is how liberal this work is. Kasper doesn't have much confidence in the accuracy of the New Testament. Like most of contemporary Catholic biblical scholarship, the infancy narratives are dismissed as mostly unhistorical. All the "nature miracles" (walking on water, raising the dead, the transfiguration, the multiplication of the loaves, etc.) are also unhistorical "legends." Kasper then proceeds to discuss Jesus' healings and exorcisms, the authenticity of some he appears to accept, but his subsequent discussion of the theology of miracles makes you wonder if he believes Jesus performed miracles in the way commonly assumed. Kasper believes that Jesus had some insight into the salvific meaning of his death, but how and why he isn't sure. Was the tomb empty? We can't be sure, but what really matters is the apostolic preaching of the risen Christ.
It's too bad that Kasper didn't interact with more conservative writers. Most authors Kasper discusses are German, and of a fairly liberal perspective. English writers that could have provided balance, such as F.F. Bruce, aren't mentioned. The end result is a comprehensive, if one-sided discussion of Christology.

This is, one of the best books I have ever read. The Holy Ghost touched my heart as I read each page. The beautiful details
of Christ's ministry, the signs of his birth and death, and more are written in a wonderous style that only Jamed E. Talmage
could have done. This book was written in one of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint temples, where the veil between
God and Jesus, and us is thinner and allows our hearts, minds and spirits to become much more receptive to the truth and the
love our Savior has for us.
He is the Carpter of Nazerth that can mend broken lives, and mend the broken bridge between us and our loving Heaveny Father.
I was especially touched by the section where Peter sees his Master walking upon the water and excitedly asks to join him. Our Lord's answer was as always, "Come." Peter jumped out and for a few moments managed to STAND and WALK upon the water due to his great faith in Jesus, and keeping his eye on the Savior as he walked across the water. However, once Peter looked away from his Lord, he felt winds and the thrashing water around and under him attacking him. He became afraid and began to sink.
Yet, his faith was not totally lost: trusting in Christ, he called out "Lord, save me!" and Jesus came and pulled him out of the water, saying, "O ye of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
Sometimes, I have felt like Peter, sinking into the depths of despair, but I trust my Master that he will help me as I remain righteous and cry out to him for help. This little story teaches us to ignore the "shafts and the whirlwinds"(Helaman 5:12) sent by the devil and his influences and focus on our Lord as we 'walk across the water of life' to reach him and gain immortality and Eternal Life. It is hard, I've sank multiple times and am no better than anyone else. But, just DON'T give up! Keep trying and you will reach Him evenutally.
I recommend this book to everyone in the world.

As a connoisseur of both Mormon and anti-Mormon literature, I can confidently state this book provides probably the best overall
description of Mormon biblical beliefs.
An article I recently read in Sunstone (gasp!) argued that the Mormon conception of the Godhead wasn't really settled until Jesus the Christ was first published in 1915. Considering the strong Trinitarian (even Modalist) passages in the Book of Mormon from the early 1830s, and contrasting these passages with the humanist and polytheistic passages in the Pearl of Great Price and D&C 130 in the 1840s, I can see their point. That said, Talmage's apology for Mormon beliefs as then (and currently) existing are excellent, and I have used them myself when bashing.
Overall, I recommend this book as far superior in its doctrinal exposition and in its tone to Mormon Doctrine, even though its scope is necessarily more limited.

This is an incredibly funny book. The characters and situations reminded me of people I've met and things I've seen. These
touches of realism make the humor work so much better.
The only problem I had with this book was that my daughter ran off with it before I finished ... it seemed like it took forever for me to get it back from her.

but can be appreciated without having read the other books. It is in my opinion the funniest of the series, but all are
good.

I borrowed this and 3 other books by Betsy from a friend last year at this time and loved this one. Women were found dead
from unknown reasons and when Helen came to town, she helped the town Police Officer to solve the crimes. Having the elderly
ladies in the neighborhood trying to help solve the case, made for a lot of fun. I really enjoy the humor Betsy adds to each
of her books. I highly recommend this book, esp the twists at every turn, thinking the killer was someone else, then coming
up with the unexpected.
Not her best but still good.

This is my least favoite of Betsy Brannon Greens books but it was still a good book. The mystery was a bit confusing and
the love story wasn't strong enough for me, but if you like a good book then read this one. Here is a condensed version of
what the book is about. Helen Tyler comes into town on the night of a murder, she is running from her past. She starts
working for the sherrif, Matt Clevenger, and finds herself helping to solve the murders. The ending was very surprising but
a little confusing at times.

I have enjoyed all of Betsy Brannon Green's books, and although this one is my least favorite, it is still a wonderful book.
A serial killer is on the loose in a small southern town called Eureka, Georgia and the only clue they leave is a small white
Bible beside each of the victim's beds. Helen Tyler comes into town and soon begins working for the sherrif, Matt Clevenger,
and finds herself also involved with this confusing mystery. Together they work to uncover the identity of a killer and come
closer and closer to the answers. The book had a very surprising ending and left me turning the pages for hours at a time.
I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy romantic mysteries. It is a great book!

It is impressive just how much Preston has packed into this relatively small book. Tieing OT and NT scripture together to
weave indisputable proof that the "last days" (last hour, end of the age, etc. referred to in the Bible, refers to only one
time in history, and it isn't in our future.

This workman's logical and articulate handling of the sharp and indestructible plow of Scripture will break up the hardest,
rocky sod of popular presuppositions regarding the last days. Critical, yet teachable Christians and perhaps non-Christians
will finish it and rejoice in a positive and bright new world view. Don Preston has an impressively deep grasp of this subject.
