VERSION ON TAPES.
I listened to this because one of my companions on my mission had it (I don't think it was against the rules of our mission) and he really liked it, none of his other companions wanted to give it a chance, so when he asked if I'd listen to it with him I decided to be the nice one, he said if I didn't like it we never had to listen to it, I agreed and...wow!! For 3 days all we did during lunch and after the day was over was listen to his tapes.

What an enveloping story, exciting and suspenseful, it is very well written and intertwined with the actual stories. It is very enjoyable, it makes you wish you could have been there, the way he describes things is mind wrapping. I definately recommend it. I am giving it for Christmas.

Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites
A book by Chris Heimerdinger
The Tennis Shoes series is originally about a boy who travels back in time to an ancient civilization called the Nephites (a people whose writings make the "Book of Mormon", which is a book the religious people called "Mormons" or the "L.D.S." people base their beliefs). Armed with modern gadgets, the boy, named Jim, his sister Jenny, and their enemy-turned-friend, Garth, are out for the adventure of their lives.
When Garth finds an ancient cave, which he believes holds hieroglyphs made by the Nephites, he begs Jim and Jenny to come along. When they reluctantly agree, they find themselves sucked into a whirlpool of a lake, which they are manipulated by and finally spewed out on a waterfall. Where they are, they have no idea.
The three-some suddenly realize they are in a world where there is no electricity, no cars, no boats, not anything! Jim finds out that they are in the world of the Nephites. How can they get home? How can they make friends with these nomadic people? How can they make sure that they don't get eaten by wild beasts? Read this book and you will be hooked until the very end!
"Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites" is only the first of ten books! In the next nine, Jim's family and friends also find this historic cave, but it doesn't only take them to the land of the Nephites! Read these books to find adventures in Mexico, ancient Rome, the Mayan empire, ancient Babylon, and much, much more!

I am personally acquainted with Chris and he is an amazing person as well as an amazing author. He truly researches each and everyone of the books that he writes. He travelled to Mexico while researching for the Gadianton novel and went through several of the experiences that he wrote his characters into. He really brings the ancient characters to life in wonderful adventures while exploring true gospe principles. His awesome testimony and love for the LDS church, the Book of Mormon, and the Bible makes him the perfect person to write these stories. Whenever a new ook would come out me and my brothers and sister would fight over who got to read first. We would have 2 or 3 bookmarks in it marking where each member in the family was reading. I am now out of the house and am working on bying my own copies of all ten books.

Great For Mormon Children!!

I liked the premise of this book... a couple of kids going back in time among the Nephites and Lamanites of old to experience their hardships, learn to apply touch lessons into their lives, and learn to love The Book of Mormon. This story focuses on the time a few years after the Title of Liberty was raised by Captain Moroni.

This is the story of Jim who is in need of a spiritual experience to increase his faith and bring him back into the fold of the church. He has help from his friend, Garth, a Book of Mormon expert, as they accidentally go back in time while searching some old caves. Jim's little sister (Jenny) comes along as well and gets kidnapped by the Lamanites. Jim befriends many common Book of Mormon heroes as they try to save Jenny and get back home.

For children over 9 or 10, this is a GREAT read. It really brings the Book of Mormon to life. For adults, well, I found it a little bit childish for my tastes but I have heard that the following books are more mature. I'm looking forward to reading more about these types of adventures. My only real complaint was that the ending seemed to wrap itself up too quickly. It was almost like the author was tired of writing the book and just wrote to get it over with in a hurry.

It took me two years to slowly get through this text because I wanted to cross reference everything and look up every word that I was not familiar with. The guy who wrote this is a pure genius and I really enjoyed this. It put me right in the moment down to the very detail of everything that was happening, and it did it with great dignity and accuracy.

This is, one of the best books I have ever read. The Holy Ghost touched my heart as I read each page. The beautiful details of Christ's ministry, the signs of his birth and death, and more are written in a wonderous style that only Jamed E. Talmage could have done. This book was written in one of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint temples, where the veil between God and Jesus, and us is thinner and allows our hearts, minds and spirits to become much more receptive to the truth and the love our Savior has for us.

He is the Carpter of Nazerth that can mend broken lives, and mend the broken bridge between us and our loving Heaveny Father.

I was especially touched by the section where Peter sees his Master walking upon the water and excitedly asks to join him. Our Lord's answer was as always, "Come." Peter jumped out and for a few moments managed to STAND and WALK upon the water due to his great faith in Jesus, and keeping his eye on the Savior as he walked across the water. However, once Peter looked away from his Lord, he felt winds and the thrashing water around and under him attacking him. He became afraid and began to sink.

Yet, his faith was not totally lost: trusting in Christ, he called out "Lord, save me!" and Jesus came and pulled him out of the water, saying, "O ye of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"

Sometimes, I have felt like Peter, sinking into the depths of despair, but I trust my Master that he will help me as I remain righteous and cry out to him for help. This little story teaches us to ignore the "shafts and the whirlwinds"(Helaman 5:12) sent by the devil and his influences and focus on our Lord as we 'walk across the water of life' to reach him and gain immortality and Eternal Life. It is hard, I've sank multiple times and am no better than anyone else. But, just DON'T give up! Keep trying and you will reach Him evenutally.

I recommend this book to everyone in the world.

Good primer on basic Mormon bible-based doctrines

As a connoisseur of both Mormon and anti-Mormon literature, I can confidently state this book provides probably the best overall description of Mormon biblical beliefs.

An article I recently read in Sunstone (gasp!) argued that the Mormon conception of the Godhead wasn't really settled until Jesus the Christ was first published in 1915. Considering the strong Trinitarian (even Modalist) passages in the Book of Mormon from the early 1830s, and contrasting these passages with the humanist and polytheistic passages in the Pearl of Great Price and D&C 130 in the 1840s, I can see their point. That said, Talmage's apology for Mormon beliefs as then (and currently) existing are excellent, and I have used them myself when bashing.

Overall, I recommend this book as far superior in its doctrinal exposition and in its tone to Mormon Doctrine, even though its scope is necessarily more limited.

This is my favorite books yet. I remember my wife brought this nice hardcover book home for display for our table in the living room to add to the home. I flipped through a couple of pages and promised myself I would read 1 chapter a day. So I figured 42 chapters will be 1 month and a half. I was literally hooked I finished it in 1 month. Now I'm reading it again! This book quadrupled my testimony of the Church and why Jesus came to restore His church. And why the gathering of the "Lost House of Israel" is so important. If you love this book read Articles of Faith also. I have learned since becoming a Latter-day Saint there are 2 set of Christians. (1) Those who wait for the second coming. (2)Latter-day Saints who prepare for the second coming!

I recieved this book after my daughter was stillborn. It was a gift from my sister-in-law who had lost a baby in a car accident. I now share this book with anyone who tragically needs the comforts that this book brought to me. It taught me first and foremost that my husband and I grieve very different. It also reminded me that my Heavenly Father loves me and my baby and even though my daughter never took a breath she has a place in my family and in heaven. There is so little written in scripture about loosing a baby and this book brings out many words from modern day prophets that answer all those questions I couldn't seem to find answers for. I am very grateful for the comfort this book brought me.

I have treasured this wonderfully frank and insightful book. How tragic its concept, yet how much comfort and support it has given me and several of my dear friends who have also experienced the death of a child. As we journey over the often-times, bumpy trail that is life, we may feel alone in our circumstances and this book enables us to feel a closeness and a shared strength with those who are also travelling along this path.

I read this wonderful book 8 or 9 years ago while preparing to enter the temple. It opened my eyes to the world of Gospel Symbolism and started me on a path to writing my own book about the temple. (Prepare Now for the Temple)

I also recommend these other books by Matthew B. Excellent reading and excellent book for all Latter-day Saints who hold temple recomends. This has got to be the only Church that does not rely only on scriptures for salvation but through a living prophet! How could these prophets in the 1800's in the last days make-up all these symbols when they are incorporated in the Old Testament. Sometimes you have to ask yourself, Where did they get the resources or internet for these men in the early 1800's? Answer: There was none. More than just reading the bible needed to take place, but through revelation. The accuracy of the book is flawless!

The authors take a detailed look at the Kirland, Nauvoo and Salt Lake City temples and discuss the architecture of each building and the symbolism of various designs in each of the temples. The book is well organized and easy to read. There are good illustrations to help the reader visualize what the authors are discussing. The book has good footnotes and a bibliography for further study. A great plus for the book is that it avoids wierd interpretations of various things like the Saturn stones that were supposed to be put on the Salt Lake Temple but weren't.

Matthew B. Brown is a brilliant theologian. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for those wish to have a deeper understanding of the history of temples and their rites. You absolutely must read the notes at the end of every chapter, you will not only learn more than you can ever imagine, you will be enriched and utterly fascinated. The scriptures become clearer as you delve further into this book. A must have for the serious religious library.

This was the first of Matthew Brown's books that I purchased and studied. Now I anxiously await as each new book arrives.

This book stands alone as an interesting account of temples and temple symbolism throughout all of history. For the Latter-day Saint, it provides a greater insight into the temple on a more spiritual level - the book becomes more meaningful once one is familiar with the modern ordinances of the temple. Highly recommended for those who want a profound, scholarly approach to their temple studies, and those who would enjoy a faith-building reading experience. This is an outstanding resource for anyone interested in understanding more about the temple.

The Drapers have taken the Last Days genre and lifted it to awe-inspiring level. While taken from the LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) perspective, they unfold the Scriptures in a gripping tale that is of good report for all who read it. I am especially greatful of the interlude dialogs of the father writing to his son in the mission field and his plain and clear explanations of gospel principals and the scriptures and tie them into today's world and what is going on around us.

Whether you are a fan of apocolyptic fiction or an earnest student of Last Day prophicies, I can't recommend this book and this series enough. A must have!

Jessica Draper weaves an amazing tale of the fight for right in a deteriorating world. She combines our modern day with the revelations in the bible to create a story of how these things could come to pass. She brings her characters to live, from the geneticists Chris and Merry, to Dove, a gang member in the borderlands who is searching for a better life. Putting down this book will only leave you desperate to find out what happens next.

The Book of Revelations Decoded
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-01
Draper decodes the Book of Revelation. What are the two greatest books explaining God's plan for man and the destiny of the earth? They are the Book of Revelation and Isaiah. Many people struggle to understand the meaning of the poetic content of Isaiah and the Book of Revelation.

These books are difficult because both books have spiritual symbolism and historical context hurdles. These barriers are to prevent the spiritually weak from understanding. The spirit of prophecy and revelation is required to understand the words of the both Seers. The spiritual information is essential for the elect to survive the destructions of the last days.

Draper brilliantly ties in doctrine from D&C 45, 88, 133 and Ezekiel, Daniel, and Isaiah to paint a picture of war, a war between God's kingdom and Satan's kingdom. Draper is both intellectually and spiritually gifted. His work is the result of comprehensive research, carefully drawn conclusions, and deep spiritual commitment to understand.

Who am I? Where did I come from? and, Where am I going? Matthew Brown brilliantly lays out the plan of salvation. He begins in the pre-existence (where we were before we were born) and carefully takes us through the Garden of Eden experience, the events of the parents of the human race and through each doctrine. He carefully backs up every thought and premise with the writings of the scriptures, prophets and apostles. Every person on the face of the earth must read this book and treasure it as a valuable addition to their religious library. So many questions about life and so many answers within the pages of The Plan of Salvation by Matthew Brown. Well done, Mr. Brown, and thank you. Questions I have had for years were answered within these pages, so again I thank you.

This book references many sources from early leaders of the LDS church and gives great insight to what the purose of life really is. If you are LDS and don't have a firm knowledge of what the plan of salvation encompasses then this is a must read.
