Clifford is one of the best liked dogs in our house, and I think we have every book about
The Big Red Dog. This is a very sturdy slide the flap book, which is a nice change from the traditional card board lift the flap books.
The story is about Clifford as a puppy, and is ideal for little hands 3 and up. I can't tell you how much we are enjoying this book.

This was the only Clifford Puppy Days plush I was able to find and I could not love him more!

Actually he's for my son's birthday, but I fell in love with him too. He has a very sweet little face, is super soft & cuddly and has lots of activities to keep little ones busy.

* Crinkly ears
* One crinkly paw
* One mirrored paw
* One squeaky paw
* One rattle paw
* Different colored footprints on bottom of non-mirrored paws

He's sewn so that he'll sit just right and his stitches are nice and sturdy.

This is one sweet, adorable plushie, and he's safe for little ones as well, with no loose parts or anything that can be detached and swallowed.

Climbing the Rainbow is a great story, and is a really fast read. The story takes place in Utah, which is where Dora Cookson has recently moved to from Mexico City. I really enjoyed this story, because I could relate to it so well. When I was fourteen years old my family moved to Idaho from Colorado, because my grandmother died. My family was the only family my grandfather had left, so we moved here to be with him. It was very hard for me to be a teenager, and move to a new town. Many people were very rude and not open to making friends with me. Dora had the same problem. Cora Beth noticed Dora's pain, and introduced herself. Katherine, who I am still best friends with today, did the same for me as Cora Beth did for Dora. Through this whole book I felt for Dora, because I have been in her shoes. It is hard to make new friends, especially during the teenage years. If you have ever been a new kid, or opened up to a new kid, this book would be great for you to read. You will be able to relate!

As a new teacher I am always looking for good literature to introduce mathematics. This warm family story uses loving, hard-working characters to spin a tale of promises and dreams, all wrapped around geometry. The possibilities for geometric-based lessons are endless. When I read it to my second grade class they were enthralled.

"A Cloudy Day in Sunny Patch" is another wonderful "Miss Spider" television story released as a book.Written and illustrated by David Kirk, this an excellent adapation of the original story by Steven Sullivan.

In this story, Shimmer, Miss Spider's adopted jewel-beetle is eager to celebrate her eighth hatch-day. Since she was adopted and had been an orphan, she's never had an exciting hatch-day party before. So her friends and family go all-out, but then rain threatens to spoil the party. Shimmer learns an important lesson about making the best of a bad situation.

The illustrations are bright and fun, just like on the TV show. The text is good for beginning readers. This is a nice story for all "Miss Spider" fans.

In language rich with Caribbean tones and sounds, Lynn Joseph casts her fishing net and pulls a school of readers in with the tide, giving "boys and girls who aren't familiar with the Caribbean a glimpse into another child's world." A woman of the island herself, Joseph writes the poems from the perspective of a young Trinidad girl. Beginning with "Morning Songs," the poems flow naturally across the pages as a Caribbean day unfolds. Before day's end, the girl is greeted by the "ebony man selling mangoes and papaws in the street," has school escapades, and sees "Mama gone to market with the figs upon her head." The pleasures and secrets of the island are revealed throughout, as in "The Palet Man" (Caribbean ice-cream man), and "Steel Drum," which beckons readers to hear the drum's "pom da de de de dom pom." Text-enhancing, full-page illustrations, bursting with Caribbean life, leave lingering images behind. Glorious colors depict everything from the multi-hued blue water where Brother swims "till he touch high heaven on a wave," to the all too real "Jumbi Man" (Caribbean boogie-man) with his "monkey face." Joseph craftily uses metaphors to construct new images from the familiar. In "Pullin' Seine," the evening ritual of fishermen pulling nets in from the sea, Joseph skillfully places the text, creating an image of the net's heaving and hawing, as fishermen begin, struggle, and successfully pull their net in. While the book is an excellent read-aloud for all ages, the text's level of difficulty along with the unfamiliar Caribbean words make it an appropriate independent-read for children ages eight and older.

This book is a good reader for young children. The clues found in the charming illustrations and the use of rhymes will direct the child to use the correct word(s) to finish each page.
