Rosie's grandmother has a new job, and Rosie is invited to spend the day with her at work. Although Rosie is skeptical that going to work with Grandma will be as fun as some of the other activities she has envisioned, the day turns out to be a rewarding and pleasant experience. Grandma works as a hair stylist at a full-service salon, and no drama or problem is too big for Grandma to handle. A fussy customer who cannot get comfortable, a wig that must be styled by the end of the day, a hair color treatment that went horribly wrong, and a missing boy; Grandma manages it all with aplomb. Along the way Rosie (and the reader) can participate in some of the color, scent, and style decisions that the salon customers make.

Not only does this book deliver an enjoyable story, it also provides young readers with some important lessons in economics related to jobs, human resources, and the provision of services. The book stands out for featuring an employed grandmother who skillfully works in her trade while introducing her granddaughter to the excitement of the workplace. Just as beauty runs deeper than the skin, the substantive content in Beauty Day goes far beyond the colorful pages.

The text consists of verbs in the present participle.

That's an easy pattern for students of English as a second language to understand. Furthermore, it is welcome help on a difficult topic: verbs.

Love these books....they were my favourite when I was younger and they've become my kids' favourite!

The Berenstains accurately describe the feelings, anxieties, and anticipations of going back to school. This is a great read for any kid going back to school up to 4th grade.

My 6 year old son really enjoyed this book even though he has already been introduced to Jesus and the Easter story. The book is set up so that the grown-up reads the regular typed paragraphs and the child reads the bold paragraphs; it's nice because it keeps the child involved in the story.

The age recommendation on the book is for 5-8, but unless the child is reading at a first or second grade level, he/she probably won't be able to read the bold-print paragraphs without considerable help from the grown-up. Still, the pictures are big and colorful enough that they should keep the child's interest even if he/she isn't reading along...

The book was about a snail who was trying to get the best father's day present ever. It starts out with the snail talking about his other father's day presents and how they were bad. He tells what his other father's day presents were. Then he sees his friends are going to the shop to get their father's day presents. The snail decides to go too, but his friends were the last three customers to get in because the store was closing early. When the snail was walking home, he found a rock with a ring on it. He gave this to his father who thought it was good luck. He also found a leaf cup filled with water.

I liked "The Best Father's Day Present Ever" by Christine Loomis because it was a book about snails and I like snails.

Charlotte Labaronne's Best Friends tells of lonely Alexander Alligator, who doesn't have any friends and who looks forward to a new student's arrival in school. Alexander tries to overcome his shyness to befriend Louise the Lion, but he keeps getting it wrong in this funny story of loneliness.

My 3 month old son loves me to read him this book. His eyes light up when I start the first words. Your child will surely love the colorful pages and familar images. Good for babies to about 5 years. What a great purchase to make!

Ojo wants Thanksgiving to be perfect and becomes a Thanksgiving Commander to oversee decorating and such at the Big Blue House. She learns, though, that even when things go really wrong, the important thing is being with friends.
