I read this book to my four and five year old preschool class on our "last day of school party". It was a big hit! I thought the text of the book captured the EXACT feelings of those children who were SO ready for summer to be there. At the same time, it gently and subtly reinforced the idea that they needed to continue to control themselves and follow the rules. Wonderful, colorful, interesting pictures. An all-around FUN but educational book that I would HIGHLY reccomend for any teacher or parent facing the "end of the year wiggles".
Perfectly appropriate and lots of fun!

What a wonderful book! Well written and entertaining, it holds the readers' attention right up to the end. And what a sweet ending. My 6 year old son and I both loved it so much we gave it to his kindrgarten teacher, who read it on the last day of school. The whole class loved it.

Dean Hughes is the best. He has the talent of writing a story that immediately brings you into the thick of it. This is a series of WW2 novels, with 5 volumes being in the first series. You feel for what this family is going through as they try and cope with World War 2. Best of all, they are "clean" books. None of the smut and dirty language. Dean doesn't need any of that. He writes a great story!!!. I recommend this series plus his follow up series Hearts of the Children another great 5 volumes.

In the fourth installment of the Children of the Promise series, Hughes takes us deeper into the wartime lives of Alex, Wally and Bobbi. Alex faces time as a prisoner, Wally continues in the unspeakable horror known as the Japanese P.O.W. camps and Bobbi struggles to keep her relationship with Richard alive as wounded soldiers pour in from the South Pacific theater. The reader is drawn so deeply into the lives of these characters they almost seem like family. Hughes, once again, has brilliantly triumphed in continuing to keep us so tuned in to the Thomases.

It was Thursday, Bruno the bear's birthday, and he had such a wonderful and fun time that he wished it didn't have to end. "He knew his birthday would be gone in the morning. So, wondered Bruno, what happened to it during the night? Where did it go?" Bruno just had to find out, and so along with his duck friend Bert embarks on a middle of the night odyssey to find Thursday and say goodbye. "First they came to a bridge. A gentle river gurgled beneath. "Oogle, gurgle. Oogle gurgle," it said. "Is that you, Thursday?" Bruno called out. "We've come to say goodbye." But there was no reply." Then on to the park, the lake, up the big hill to the train tracks, and even the seashore. Each time they called out their goodbye to Thursday. And each time there was no reply. Sad and defeated they head back home, and Bruno tells Bert what his Thursday would look like if he could find it ...round like his birthday cake, bright like his candles, and happy like his balloons. Just then, Bruno and Bert look up and see the big, glowing moon. "Just like Thursday..." Janeen Brian's simple, whimsical, and engaging story begs to be read aloud and shared, and is complemented by Stephen Michael King's expressive watercolor artwork that sparkles with lovely nightime detail. Together word and art create a magical, gentle, and soothing bedtime story. Perfect for preschoolers Where Does Thursday Go? is a sweet little treasure that's soon to become a special favorite at your house.

This is a fabulous book and I agree with all the other reviewers. An interesting point though is that in Australia the characters in this book are Splodge and Humbug, not Bernie and Bruno! Personally I think they look more like Splodge and Humbug. Either way, a VERY cute book. It was an honour book in the Australian Children's Book Council Awards.

Yes I'd like to rate this calender..It's filled with great pictures for all ages.. Wishbone as an actor is one of the best animal actors of all times... If not the best.. I just love the way he has done his job on all his shows.. Jackie Kaptan has done well in training him and wearing all the different clothes is a big feat in itself.. Paws up for the Calender and for Wishbone... Great Four Legged Actor ! Check out his show and Movies and His Wonderful Books.

If you can never remember the words to the classic carol, this is a great book. It is wonderfully illustrated depicting two bears in the woods. Everyday they dance and move thru the 12 days of Christmas until they eventually marry. The pictures have all the classic characters in the song, ex. lords-a-leaping, swans-a-swimming etc. It will leave you singing all day, "And a partridge in a pear tree!" Great for reading aloud and getting into the holiday season.

Frances Tyrrell has created a beautiful Christmas book using the Twelve Days of Christmas song as her inspiration. The captions of the bear couple are endearing as they proceed through the courtship ritual and eventually marry. These are exquisite illustrations - delicately drawn and painted - and the whole captures the joy and celebration of the season - here, appropriately set in the North Woods. I love this book for its details (I'm constantly seeing new things in the pictures), its spirit and warmth. Highly, highly recommended.

This absolutely is the best textbook on the market for preparing to teach preschool children. The quality of the book reflects the author's intense dedication to early childhood as a teacher, center director, and University professor.
The book takes a much needed "how to" approach and is written in a clear and concise style. Beginning with understanding the characteristics of young children at different ages, the book is comprehensive. It includes everything you need to know to set up a creative developmentally appropriate environment; manage a classroom; plan an inviting curriculum, work with parents, etc. The hundreds of colored photographs help the reader see and understand quality indicators needed in outstanding early childhood programs. In the advanced yeshiva, adult males spend long periods of time (for some their entire adult life) studying and interpreting traditional writings on Jewish law and theology, all but totally cut off from the mainstream of American life, and the kind of lives lived by most American Jews. The World Of The Yeshiva: An Intimate Portrait Of Orthodox Jewry describes the daily life and curriculum, as well as the social, cultural, and ethical goals of this unique Jewish institution and its critically important role in the current revival of Jewish Orthodoxy in America. One time yeshiva student William Helmreich explains why this eastern European version of an ancient Jewish tradition is flourished in late 20th- century America and what its successful transplantation from the old world to the new world tells us about the nature of Orthodox Jewish life. The World Of The Yeshiva is a highly recommended, informative, and insightful addition to the growing body of literature on Orthodox Judaism.
Accurate, objective, and very well-written.

As a member of the "World of the Yeshiva" (perhaps an atypical one!), I found Helmreich's book to be a masterful analysis and would recommend it to anyone who seeks to learn more about this very much misunderstood societal niche.

I highly recommend this book for any family going thru Leukemia. When my friends little boy was diagnosed 1 week ago with leukemia, I set out immediatley to find a book written for children that would explain to this little boy what was happening to him. I found and read a few good books on this topic, but this one is by far the best one I found. It is very thorough, but explained well. Every family going thru Leukemia, should have this book. It was also helpful for my own children so that they too could understand what is happening to their friend.
an outstanding introduction to leukemia for all ages

Recently,my six year old daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Her doctor immediately gave us a copy of You and Leukemia. As a beginning reference, the book helped to explain the terms, challenges and struggle we were about to face. I have purchased copies for all of the family members so that everyone can begin to understand leukemia. Writing in a thorough but simple manner, Baker has produced an important resources for patients and their relatives.
