ADD / ADHD... They're Ephriam's Children!

Review Date: 2005-06-14
3 of my children have been diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. I have felt that there was no hope except medication and struggle. At last I see them for who they are... Strong and sensitive Children of covenant who have been sent here at this time to be able to stand firm in a day of turmoil.

I Love this book!! It opened my eyes to the Strengths and gifts that have been given to my Children. What seemed to be combative, distractable and completely frustrating behavior now not only makes sense, butcan further be developed into strength of charachter and focused into positive aciton, and will become great assets in the lives of my Children.

My wild, impulsive, stubborn, noisy, Know-it-all drama King has become Energetic, spontaneous, perservering, tenderhearted social, and Sensitive.

My compulsive, distracted, slow to adapt, full of fear, antisocial, angry, bossy and argumentative boy has become an unshakable, aware, steady, cautious, reserved, passionate boy who stands by his convictions and is devloping leadership abilities.

My Introverted, disorganized, impetuous, extreme, unpredictable, overly sensitive, too hard on himself loner has become Reserved, unconventional, quick, passionate, caring, conscientious, and independant.

My Children have not changed as of yet, (I'm, just half way through the book), but my perception of them has. Though I know that there is a lot of work and struggle ahead, the suggestions given to turn these character traits into strengths are easy to understand, and easy to impliment.

Thanks to this book, I have hope that my Ephraim's Children will Stand strong in these last days as Covenant keepers who are anxiously engaged in good works and God's work.

Thank you!

Finally, some help!

Parenting the Ephraim's Child is the answer to my prayers! The book not only explains my child's baffling behavior, but offers real, effective methods to work with my child's temperament. After reading this book I see my child in a different, more positive light, and now can see the strengths of my intense child. I recommend this book to anyone who feels that their child is somehow more challenging, but don't know why. They probably have an Ephraim's Child, and this book is a MUST for parents of one of these super-intense, incredible children. I am telling everyone I know about this book!

Every Day and All the Time by Sis Deans is the story of a young girl who was in a terrible car accident that shattered her dreams of becoming a dancer and took the life of her brother. She is devastated by the loss of her brother and now another blow; her parents are selling her house. In the cellar of the house is the only place that Emily can still feel and "speak" to her brother, Jon. Emily decides that she must do everything within her power to stop the sale of the house she cherishes so very much. She is very creative and uses her powers of persuasion to lure prospective home buyers away from the house. "My mother's good silver got stolen last year. The police never caught the burglars, but we have our suspicions."
As time goes by Emily slowly begins to realize that change is often good. She begins to dance again and in turn begins to heal. She finds a way to say goodbye to her brother and her dream of becoming a dancer.
This is a heartbreaking and honest novel that will not only tug at your heartstrings, but also make you laugh. Sis Deans weaves an honest tale that will keep the reader interested until the very last page.

This is a must have for any home daycare facility. After running daycare from my home for five years, I still found the information contained in this book to be a great asset. It truly tells you what deductions you can take and how to figure them out. How to establish and maintain a record keeping system. How to claim ALL the hours you work (not just the hours with daycare children, but how to claim the off hours work, too). How to track and record food expenses as well. And if you still have questions, just send an email to Tom Copeland, he answered my questions, I know he will yours.

This was a wonderful book that our family enjoyed sharing during this past Lent. We read a story each night either at dinner or later in the evening. The stories of Jesus's life are told from the view point of a child growing up in His time. They were easy to understand and thoroughly engaged my children. If you are seeking a way to bring your child a little closer to Christ this book will help, and the stories can be read any time of year.

Ransom has an incredible gift for telling a story from the perspective of a child. When I finished the book, I wanted to start all over again, as I know I missed some great detail and tidbits. Finding Day's Bottom is the type of book that you can read again and again and always find something new and interesting. Completely unfamiliar with the South, I loved the description, captivating dialogue, and unfamiliar speech. I recommend it highly!

Heartfelt Tale of Loss and Recovery

I loved the relationships between the characters, and the nuances which carried them along. The dialogue was just right, the grandfather was a hoot, and now I know what a ramp is, but I don't want to eat one. I read this in two sittings. I didn't want to put it down. I was right there with her as she picked out her fabric and I felt the mother's pain at the extra expense. This is a lovely tale of family and of growing up, learning how to deal with the loss of those closest to you.

Meg triumphs again

Review Date: 2003-07-21
Nine-year-old Meg has finally been reunited with her family in Kansas Territory and life finally seems to be settling down after the pro-slavery Ruffians finally were forced to leave. Meg and her family move to the town of Lawrence where her father opens a store. Meg comes to face the daily realites of life in Kansas and finally is able to start school and make some friends. Through it all Meg will also have to face the sometimes dangerous Kansas winters as a blizzard blows throw and tornados abound, but through it all Meg creates more life experiences and her third diary is another triumph. This is a great book for younger kids, whose older siblings like Dear America and The Royal Diaries. Definitely a must read. Meg comes out to be a very courageous character.

A good conclusion to Meg's story.

Nine-year-old Meg Wells begins her third diary in December of 1856. There is peace for now in Kansas Territory, with the pro-slavery soldiers having been forced to return to their home states, but Meg's father is still injured, and the bitter cold of winter has settled upon the prairie. When he is unable to regain the use of one of his arms, the family moves to the town of Lawrence, where he starts a store. Meg describes happy events, as she is finally able to go to school again and makes new friends, and also the dangers of life on the prairie including blizzards and a tornado. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the My America series.

Dandi Daley Mackall's book, "First Day" is an entertaining and engaging walk through a nervous child's first day at school. Charming and amusing at the same time, this book puts children at ease and lets them know that what appears to be a daunting activity may very well turn out to be a wonderful adventure. Mackall's gift of rhyme makes this story sparkle. Her words always flow perfectly, making First Day an easy and enjoyable read. I would recommend this book for any child who has misgivings about the first day of school - or even for a child who's wholeheartedly looking forward to it.

The narrator in First Day tells of her first-day jitters in simple, rhyming sentences. ýSwirls of girls, / bands of boys, / talking, laughing, making noise. / I already miss my toys. / It's only my first day.ý

Once in the classroom she plans her getaway (digging to China with a spoon, or taking a rocket to the moon). ýI'd be outta here by noon,ý she posits. But, like most children on their first day, the narrator finds that school is not quite as bad as she imagined it to be. Coloring sheets with teddy bears, building tall towers, a new lunch box, and recess all combine to make the day enjoyable. By story's end she asks, ýHow much better can it get on my second day?ý

Accompanying the large-print text are watercolor and acrylic illustrations. Done in somewhat muted, warm colors, the childlike paintings are full of realistic details and smiling faces, giving the book a comforting, friendly feel.

This is a great choice for a first-day-of-school read aloud.

It shows them that their choices can affect how they meet and overcome the challanges of a new school situation. In this interactive book, the reader is allowed to try different ways of connecting with potential friends in a new school. It works well to stimulate discussion about ways of meeitng and making friends.

Parenting Press publishes "The Decision is Yours" series of books. Each book deals with common dilemmas faced by elementary or middle school students. At the end of each page, the reader is asked to make an ethical choice. Based on the choice, the story takes a different branching path. Positive, negative and intermediate outcomes are available. The potential outcomes are not sugar-coated. Sometimes even the "right" choice may not have an entirely happy
