I use this book on a regular basis to help with ideas for activities for my preschooler. It is so well organized with great ideas and easy activities. I have a stack of preschooler idea books at home and this is the one that gets the biggest workout! I plan to buy the next one in the series, too.

Easy to follow. Great Ideas

This is a popular one at the center that I contract out of for family child care. It's a worthwhile book. It's a great series. I like knowing that the activities are specifically catered to an age group. It helps with family child care and daycare, too.

Sasso has once again beautifully illustrated a classic Bible tale. After enjoying their first sunset, Adam and Eve are afraid of the dark and worry through the night about the sun's return. There is a rich field of topics in this eye-pleasing book for discussion at all age levels.

A triumphant story of hope

Adam & Eve's First Sunset: God's New Day by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso is a multicultural, nondenominational, nonsectarian picture book endorsed for children ages 4 and older by Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish religious leaders. It tells the story of Adam and Eve's first day in the Garden of Eden. At first Adam and his mate Eve enjoyed the peaceful afternoon; then they realized the sun was slipping away, and the air became cold. They were fearful and fell asleep waiting for the world to end, but instead came the glorious dawn of a new day, and they thanked God for creating the light and the dark, as well as all that there is. Impressionably illustrated in full color by Joani Keller Rothenberg, Adam & Eve's First Sunset is a triumphant story of hope that is meant to be shared with children from all religious backgrounds.

Addy and Sarah are against Harriet even though they are workingtogether on a booth for the church fair that is raising money to helpblack slaves get to their families. But when the money is stolen, Addy and Harriet must work toghether to get it back. Addy also meets a surprise person in this book. Addy Saves The Day is one of my favorite American Girl books because it is fun and exciting to read and I definitely recommend it.

This book is great!

This is another in the American Girls series about Addy Walker, a ten-year-old African-American girl living in the America of 1865. With the war over, Trinity A.M.E. Church decides to hold a fair to raise money for those hurt or displaced. Addy's idea for the children to hold a puppet show and sell the puppets is warmly received, but everything looks gloomy when she and Sarah are partnered with Harriet. Everything depends on the girls working together, much more so then they realized, so the girls must come together to overcome.

The final chapter is an informative look at outdoor activities in 1865. This is another, wonderful book, well written, with a captivating storyline and great lessons. My daughter is an Addy fan, and so am I! This book is great!

We read both of Adeline's books almost nightly during our reading time. Not only does our 5 year old daughter repeat all the words but also our 2 year old son. The message in these books is so amazing for a child to hear. I am having a sign reciting the entire verse that begins "How you look little one cannot measure your worth...." made to hang in her room as a constant reminder that what matters is what God sees and that is what is in our hearts. I am so proud of them for being so interested in these books and will read it until it falls apart if that is what they continue to choose.

Wow! I want to get this for every little girl I know!

What a wonderful message for building a child's self-esteem, especially for girls. In such an unkind world where meanness, teasing, and bullies are pretty much a childhood given, children need to know where their worth really comes from. This book is a great teaching tool for a topic that is sometimes hard to explain and that needs a lot of repetition for it to stick.

12.  The Graduate (Standing up for your beliefs): Connie is the valedictorian and she must decide if she will give a prayer mentioning Jesus or a prayer that will not offend the other students without mentioning Jesus.  What will Connie do?

REVIEW: Wow!  Again another AIO volume comes out quickly and right in time before the holidays!  This volume is very good and it's nice to hear from the Barclays again!  Also, the story of St. Patrick's day is truly informative (something that many of us didn't know) and "A Lesson from Mike" is very well done.   Also, "The Graduate" and how Connie deals with her dilemma is very well done.  Another 5-star volume!!! Check it out!!!

RADIO DRAMA IS VIRTUALLY EXTINCT IN THE USA, AS OUR CULTURE IS DRAWN TO THE FLASH AND GLITTER OF VISUAL MEDIA, BUT FOCUS ON THE FAMILY HAS CREATED A MASTERPIECE IN ITS ADVENTURES IN ODYSSEY SERIES. FOCUS HAS CAPTURED THE DRAMA AND SUSPENSE THAT ONCE WAS FOUND IN RADIO DRAMAS, AND INCORPORATED WHOLESOME VALUES SO LACKING IN TODAYS ENTERTAINMENT. OUR ENTIRE FAMILY, YOUNG AND OLD ALIKE ARE RIVETED TO EACH NEW EPISODE. FOCUS HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, CHARACTERS THAT EXEMPLIFY CHRISTIAN VALUES SO NEEDED IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES, BUT BE PREPARED TO BUY MORE, AS YOU TOO WILL GET HOOKED!

My adopted son -- who speaks English as his third language -- has had a hard time getting the gist of the word "pretend." This book was the perfect explanation and the ending was surprisingly (and touchingly) appropriate for an adopted child. Wonderful whimsical illustrations.

(K-8)This is a great book to show children (and adults) that there are people like them all around the world who wake up each morning but live their lives differently and that is ok. The book is a wonderful representation through artwork and captions of what each child around the world does throughout the time period of a day and gives more accurate representations of what cultural norm's are through the images which can help children of all ages understand different countries and ethnicities. This book could be used with children of ages and to explore any content area not to mention it has wonderful illustrators.

This book is a true sign of peace, love, joy, and unity!!!

This wonderful collection of autobiographical essays and short fiction (not always easy to tell apart) will please any real-cowboy fan, and certainly any Will James fan. In his easy-going cowboy-talk vernacular, James tells it like it is (or in many cases, was), patiently explaining the ins and outs of cowboy life while giving the good parts a bit of a romantic glow and all the rest his dry, even-tempered humor.

Writing in the 1930s, fifty years after the cattle drives and open range, James argues that there's still plenty of wide open spaces for old-time cowboying, and while he is aware of the encroachments of 20th century mechanization, he makes a strong case for the old ways, the central role of horses in the cowboy's identity, and the enduring qualities of the cowboy code. The contents of the book are evenly balanced among those three themes.

Like he is writing for city-born novices, he patiently explains the many uses of the cowboy's gear: hat, chaps, boots, rope, slicker, and so on. I'm familiar with these subjects, but still I had never read before such a detailed accounting of the makeup and contents of the cowboy's bedroll (gatherings). I've also never read such a careful description of how to eat a meal sitting cross-legged on the ground.

There are many stories of horses of all kinds, especially the broncs that were hardest to break. At least a couple of them lay up the author with broken bones. There's a chapter devoted to cattle ("The Critter") and another about trekking with a small herd through a fierce winter blizzard ("On the Drift"). Another chapter gives a month-by-month description of the cowboy's year. James devotes another chapter to the rodeo, at a time before rodeo cowboys were organized into a professional organization that would protect their interests.

Writing fiction, James could go for the heartstrings, as in the sentimental story of brother horses, "Tom and Jerry," and the melodramatic account of a young outlaw who mends his ways, "Scattered Tracks." And the entire book is illustrated with James' wonderful illustrations of cowboys, horses, and cattle. Each is dated and range from the early 1920s to the 1930s. Thanks to the Will James Society of Billings, Montana, for keeping the books of this find cowboy writer and illustrator in print.
