We've read the entire series this year as my youngest completed her kindergarten year. So we were as sad to see the series end as we were to see our baby end her days as a kindergartener. I would recommend this series to any family with children heading off to their first days of school.

Miss Bindergarten has much to celebrate. It's the last day of kindergarten and her class has had a very successful year. They've gone on field trips, marked the 100th day, learned, and had a lion's share of fun. Now, it's time to say good-bye to kindergarten.

As related in bouncing rhyme, the first step is to get the room ready for the summer. "Danny scrubs a table. Emily hands back rocks. Franny clears her bin and shouts, `Oh no - three smelly socks!"

Now, for the real celebration: they play in the sprinkler, have pizza, and remember the good things that have happened all year. Before the day is over Miss B. has a special surprise for each of her students.

Youngsters will easily relate to the last day of school and find enjoyment in Ashley Wolff's colorful and comical illustrations.

I found our first Miss Bindergarten book by chance one day in the library, and soon my daughter, who is a voracious reader, had become obsessed with it. We have now read four Miss B. books, and this one is the favorite. What is it about the books that is so fun? I think it's the bright colors, the occasionally wacky action, the school setting (my daughter has learned so much about how school works through these books; almost everything she's encountered in her first year of nursery school has been previewed in these books). I also think that parents can enjoy these books, too, because each child in the books represents both a letter of the alphabet and a species that begins with that letter. My wife, who teaches elementary school and has taught Kindergarten says the writer and illustrator really know what goes on in school. The details are excellent, the teaching tools up-to-date, and both the behavior of the kids and Miss B's handling of problems are realistic.

There's so much detail that my daughter was noticing things I didn't, including things not in the text that occur in the drawings themselves. This is also good clean fun, lacking in violence, but very physically active the way kids like it to be. You can't beat the combination of fun, healthy/clean, and educational. We even bought the Miss B. doll from an Amazon seller, and my daughter immediately set up her own school for Miss B. We highly recommend this series as a fun way to teach children without turning it into a stressful lesson.

eye popping illustrations that the whole family will enjoy. A delightful story about how to handle a day filled with mishaps and small children. So entertaining and helpful in recognizing that bad things can happen but with patience and experience you can handle them.

Also a great science book!

Miss Bindergarten is back and OH!, what a wild day she is having. "Danny tends his droopy beans, Matty checks a chrysalis, and Jessie drops the bug jar." The kindergartners are growing and learning about the life cycles of plants and butterflies in the midst of one of the most hilariously hectic days the school has ever experienced. The whole "school village" from Mrs. Simpson, the secretary to Mr. King, the principal, to Carl Cox, the custodian, lends a hand to get Miss Bindergarten and her class through the day. An accurately portrayed and fun way to introduce and teach kindergarten science standards.

Molly likes to visit the art museum because she always has so much fun. From the moment she arrives at the museum's great marble staircase, Molly begins a magical journey that transports her into the works of some of the world's greatest artists. She chases Constable's rainbow, dances with Degas' ballerina, doges Turner's train, plays guitar with Picasso's musicians, and even floats on Monet's lily pad. With the story and illustrations by Denise Bennett Minnerly and the text by poet and freelance writer Gladys Walker, Molly Meets Mona And Friends: A Magical Day In The Museum is an unusually effective collaboration that introduces painting and sculpture to young readers, and is a welcome addition to any school or community library children's picture book collection.

Young boys and girls will find this day of adventure in an Art museum a visual delight! The children I read it to (I'm a school Media Specialist) were enthralled and their enthusiam generated curiosity about the artists. They checked out other art books. The Art teacher has her own copy for her young child and she loves it! I highly recommend MOLLY MEETS MONA AND FRIENDS for the young reader. It is a quality exposure to great art for the young artist or the future art lover.

This rhyming tale of a mishcievous little monkey on the loose from an urban zoo depicts the adventure and fun all children live for. Because of the simple plot, the story is captivating, fun and amusing. The illustrations make for a colorful bonus to accent the story. Though the story is short and simple, every read promises to be entertaining!
Allan Ahlberg really did a great job writing this one. He anchored his story around the phrase Monkey See, Monkey Do. The mischief this monkey gets in is hilarious. Though one reviewer claims this monkey doesn't come close to comparing with Curious George, it is the loveable monkey's character and playfulness that makes this story really rock. Monkeys are fun characters in children's books and this one is no different. Ahlberg even plays with the rhyme to pen a few new catchy phrases for the monkey's antics. Keeping the wording simple captivates readers and makes this an excellent selection for group sharing.
Andre Amstutz also contributes brilliantly to this treasure. His ink and watercolor illustrations are bold and exciting. Every page is busy with vibrant color and exciting action, befitting the characteristic of the monkey. With every turn comes a bundles of sights for children to see. The sights in this book encourage children to talk, identify, and engage in a lively and fun story.
I have not yet read this story to children at storytime, but plan to do so next week. I'm confident they will love it. I also look forward to purchasing two copies myself. One will go into my own children's book collection because it is an excellent work. The other is a gift for my nieces. Their love for fun and animals will be inspired by the adorable antics of another loveable monkey.

Monkey Do! is a fantastic childrens book. I have bought this for all my grandchildren. They are ages 5,4 and 6 months. It is entertaining and easy for them to read with me. The illustrations and the large type make it move fast and the children do not get bored. They story keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. We also look at the illustrations and talk about what is going on. Monkey Do!is more than a story it is an interactive book that looks at a normal family's life in one day when a monkey gets involved.

A smart little monkey finds keys to the cage and, once he frees himself, embarks on a rhyming adventure, eating Babys banana, saving a stranded kitty, romping all over town, only to find himself back in the arms of his monkey mom. Reminds me of "Goodnight, Gorilla", plot-wise, but has an original tone. I love it!

This is a great book for a primary grade teacher to include in a theme about hermit crabs or sea animals. Other books that are particuarly good are Eric Carle's A House for Hermit Crab and Megan McDonald's Is This a House for Hermit Crab? Moving Day features many opposites with descriptive words that would be great in both language arts and science/math lessons. On several pages, the illustrations in Moving Day have tiny, humorous details that the kids will enjoy discovering. Moreover, the very large print lends itself well to shared reading (reading in which the teacher points to each word as it is being read aloud). A great book for a teacher's Ocean-theme collection!

I love My Even Day! It's so much fun.

It's a strange, one could say, odd day for a young boy who awakes to find that everything in his life is even. There were eight beds, six closets and Mom had two heads and she made four flapjacks and there were two shoes and a field trip lunch of soup and ten watermelons. Oh, my!

The field trip to the zoo becomes even zanier with kangaroos for zoo guides, elephants with four trunks, lions and... so much more. And there are hidden objects for the reader to find on the pages. The story is in rhyme and is a fast-paced read that is tons of fun for children and adults. And the illustrations are quirky and eye-catching with lots of action to keep readers mesmerized.

And there's more. The ending is a clue for the next book in the series. You'll have to read it to find out what it is. And when the reader is finished, turn the page for more fun facts for Creative Minds. It's all about even numbers.

Armchair Interviews says: My Even Day is a wild, wacky, fun-filled story for children from four to eight.

This delightful book continues where "One Odd Day" left off in this sequel written and illustrated by the same award-winning team. Our boy wakes up to discover that life is back on an "even" keel. Mom has two heads; he sees eight beds; he's served four flapjacks; he's got two left shoes; all this before he even gets to school! The class is off to the zoo for a field trip and must pair up with a buddy for the day. In their tight lyrical format, authors Doris and Dani keep the reader laughing with the outrageous text, illustrated to thigh-slapping humorous perfection by the very comical Karen Lee. The zoo trip is a definite page-turner for the reader - you can hardly wait to see what happens next! The boy is anxious to get home and go to sleep. What will happen to him the next day? The end of the book leads the reader right into what will be a terrific sequel to My Even Day!

My Even Day and One Odd Day (as a combo) were one of Learning Magazine's 2008 Teachers' Choice Awards for Children's Books winners.

One of my favorite things in this book was the penguins in the illustrations. Ms. Lee had me anxious to see what the pair of penguins would do next! I was delighted by the outcome!

As with all Sylvan Dell books, the end of this book has an educational section "For Creative Minds" that includes: "Even Numbers Have A Match"; "Zero: An Even Number?"; "Square Numbers: Odd or Even?"; "Creative Sparks (Pairs)"; and "Defenders Of The Truth: Math Riddles".

A Fun Way to Explore Even Numbers

If you read My Odd Day and enjoyed it, you will also delight in this companion book, My Even Day. Authors Doris Fisher and Dani Sneed have continued showing math concepts in a wonderful, zany story. It's zany in an irresistible imaginative way guaranteed to catch the attention of the reader who will be drawn into counting the six wings on a trio of lions or the Scramblesaurus with ten eyes! What is a Scramblesaurus? Read the book to discover it and its number of features. Like in the first book, the writing is in rhyme that flows easily, and the even numbers are in bold type for beginning readers.

Illustrator Karen Lee nicely integrates all of the numeric concepts in fanciful paintings with movement, rhythm, and humor! The activities at the back challenge children to count, multiply, and solve riddles. Children from Kindergarten to Second Grade will take to this book, not only for math, but also for beginning reading skills and enjoyment above all. Highly recommended.

This book should become a classic. The illustrations areincredible and echo Van Gogh. I bought it for a child who will be three in November and who is used to imagining what is brought forth by picture. Another child in our family always selected it as the book to be "read" first. As happens with children, they had internalized the book before I had. One day I said as a joke something like "blue shoes on Tuesday" -the reply was "No! No! Red Shoes on Tuesday." Great fun.

The three stories are tied together by a striped cat you can watch for on virtually every page. The drawings are beautiful, with lots to look for on each page.

Those who enjoyed the popular "Where Is The Apple Pie?" will be delighted with the author/illustrator's latest - an entertaining counting book based on the repartee between Goat and Pig.

It seems that when Pig went to the meadow to gather a bouquet a sudden summer shower arose. Without an umbrella Pig headed for the shelter of the nearest tree where he was joined by one small, very fast mouse. Soon two porcupines joined them, and were followed by three buffaloes.

It was getting to be a pretty tight squeeze under that tree, and it was going to be tighter. Poor Pig was soon squeezed out and came home dripping wet.

Gorbachev's smiling animals bring out the sunshine on this rainy day.

Goat, sitting on the porch of his home looks up to see a very wet and bedraggled pig approaching the house. "What happened to you friend pig? I can see you're wet. Let me guess. You went to the meadow to get some flowers and you were caught in the rain. Is that right?" And so begins Pig's fantastic tale of a sudden rainstorm, lots and lots of animals, and a very large old tree. As Pig tells it, he took cover under the tree to stay dry. Suddenly a fast little mouse joined him, then two porcupines, three water buffaloes, four leopards, five lions, six gorillas, seven crocodiles, eight hippopotamuses, nine rhinoceroses, and finally ten elephants..... Valeri Gorbachev's simple, witty text is entertaining, full of energy, and begs to be read aloud. But it's his charming, clever illustrations, culminating in a four page, fold-out spread of everyone together under the large spreading tree that really makes this picture book stand out and sparkle. Each pen and ink, watercolored page is filled with joyous characters, expressive, eye-catching detail and lots of humor. Perfect for youngsters 3-7, One Rainy Day is a unique and engaging counting book, complete with a funny, silly story line and a cute twist at the end, that shouldn't be missed. And how, you ask, did Pig get so very wet? "...I was in such a hurry to get home to tell you about what happened to me on this rainy day that I didn't miss a single puddle!"
