My nieces haven't read this one yet.

The book runs through the excuses Sarah makes to avoid going to her new school (note that she's nervous about switching schools), and she's steadily cajoled into the front of the class where our Surprise! Announcement! reveals (and I admit, I was surprised - this is really well-done) that she's the teacher.

Well, no doubt teachers do get nervous on the first day of school, same as anybody else does :) Kids are likely to be surprised and laugh at the ending too, maybe even not believe it.

I do find it a little off-putting that Sarah's husband and boss essentially talk to her (and, in the beginning, treat her) like she's a child, but that's necessary to make the reveal an actual surprise.

I found the conversation between Sarah and the other characters to be very realistic (maybe a little less so for an adult, but, remember, we have to be surprised at the end), just like the conversations I had with my parents as a kid about school some days.

I personally have not read these books, but I have been purchasing them for my niece for special gifts, for her. After I gave her the first three books she said she really enjoyed them, because she likes horses alot. Then when I gave her a few more she was very excited because she didn't realize there were more in the series. In March I will have given her through book 10, so there are still more to come for her. I enjoy giving the gift of reading to children.

This book is Very Good. In the book Amy takes a horse mucerey that once loved to jump but now he refuses even the tinyest jumps. When Amy can not figure out the problem she takes mucrurey to a guy (Huten) that once new Amy's mom. Amy had seen the man work his own horse and she thought they had a very speical bond. Once Amy is there it is almost time to leave and her and Huten haven't worked with mucerey one bit, instead Huten takes amy out on walkes and talkes about stuff. Read this book to find out if what happens. I would recomend this book to any horse lover(like me). I Really LOVED it.

go out and read it NOW!!!!!! This was my all time fav tied with new beginnings. amy goes 2 the appilachians with mercury, a horse that wont jump. the reason amy takes him is because she wonders if the ppl there could help mercury. when amy gets there, huten, a native american friend of her mom (,and a wise horse healer), doesnt seem 2 do anything 2 mercury. instead he helps her understand with strange sayings. but wat huten says is really true. go out and buy it NOW!!!! :) peace out,
a huge heartland fan

Delightful stories of the Hundred-Acre Wood and all of its lovable characters. Pooh and friends have quite a few adventures (or misadventures) in this collection of Winnie-the-Pooh stories. The stories remind me of childhood, making them special each time I reread them. I wouldn't even be able to choose my favorite chapter in this book -- each one is full of wonder, laughter, and Pooh.

The charming and timeless story of Christopher Robin, Winnie-the-Pooh, their friends and their adventures. I truly enjoyed this more than I thought I would. After all the years working at TDS where we had the Disney version of Winnie-the-Pooh shoved at us from all directions, I'd taken to having a distinctly soured view of the bear and all his friends.

It occurred to me one day that I had never actually read the original, and thought maybe I should give that a chance, and am glad that I did. It's a simple and direct story, and proved to be a joy to read.

Winnie the Pooh - an adults perspective

What does it say of a reader who, as an adult, reads 'Winnie the Pooh' for the first time - and - and - feels it one of the best novels he ever read.
So pristine, so perfect - would I have appreciated it as a child? Who knows (I was too busy feeding my literary hunger with comics). Anyway I have my copy of 'Winnie the Pooh' on the top shelf of my book case, next to the others I consider great (Ulysses, 1984, Great Expectations ...) for all to see.
And who can contest that for "I am a bear of very little brain, and big things bother me".

Jerry Smath, But No Elephants (Parents Magazine Press, 1992)

Cute little beginning reader about prejudice and the power that every member of a society (or a household) can bring to the table. Repetition will enable younger readers to get some of the words they might not grasp the first time around, the illustrations are fun, and the story is sure to keep the kiddies entertained. May strain parents' nerves after the hundredth reading, but it's certainly enjoyable enough the first ninety-nine times. *** ½

A great book that I can't wait to share with my children one day. I had several of these "Parents Magazine Press" books as a child and they were all wonderful.

But No Elephants (Once Upon a Time)

I had to read this story EVERY NIGHT until the book fell apart, and I LOVED every minute of it! This is a beautiful story of how one's heart can soften over time - and is now a classic family favorite. Shame on whoever decided to let this go out of print. I just bought three more, while I can still get them. 1 for each of my children to read to their kids (and they're not even born yet!) and one to donate to my local elementary school. Hopefully, that way hundreds of kids will get the same enjoyment as we have over the years. Long live Grandma Tildy!! :-)

Even with our children now in high school, college, and beyond, this book is still quoted at family gatherings. At the dinner table when someone is asked if they would like more roast beef (or salad, or whatever) a frequent response is "well, OK, but no elephants!" I recently purchased this book for my college-bound son as a graduation gift because he has such fond memories of reading it and having it read to him as a youngster. If you haven't read it, you're missing out on a real gem.

This book was the best book I've read in my whole entire life!! I love the characters Creel, Prince Luka, and Shardas! I loved it when Creel knocked out Princess Amalia! I was also very annoyed with how Larkin just took Creel's shoes without asking and just gave them to Amalia! You would love this book if you're into adventurous, funny, fantasy, and action books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The storyline has action, is fun, and has some core values instilled in the actions of the chatacters. I was entertained and finished the book with a feeling of having had a good adventure. I wanted more.

This picture book is my favorite for Valentine's Day. Mr. Hatch is a lonely, friendless man, until he receives a present from a secret admirer. Then, he blooms, contributing greatly to his community. The people in his neighborhood in turn support him as well, showing him how much he means to them. It is a lovely story about being a good friend, especially on Valentine's Day.

I do not agree with the reviewer who said that the text was not very good. It is fun to read because of the rhyming text, and it is simple and brief enough to begin reading it to very young twins. I especially like the end that states, "Double hands, skin to skin, Double hearts, twin to twin." It is nice that it starts out at the beginning of the twins' lives and then as the book continues, it describes other events as they get older. Although the pictures are showing boy/girl twins, it is appropriate for all combinations of twins. I am going to be buying it for a friend who is having twins because we have enjoyed this book so much.

If my 19-month old twin girls could give the review for this book themselves, it would be 5+ stars. The illustrations and story are just adorable. What really makes me melt is everytime we come upon the last page that says, "Double hands, skin to skin. Double hearts, twin to twin.", my girls hold hands just like the twins in the picture!

When our boy/girl twins were born, a cousin gave us this book for a gift, and it quickly became one of our favorites to read to them, starting when they were just a few months old. Now they're almost 2 1/2 years old and it is one of their favorites as well. The rhyme is concise and sweet, and the pictures are very endearing. It really celebrates the joy of twins despite all the little frustrations they may create along the way!

My 5 year old son & 18 month old daugher adore this book. They each have the opportunity to play with a different room at the same time - no pushing or shoving to get closest to the book as they sit in a circle around the opened book/house. The only thing I wish it came with was something to hold all the small pieces, like a plastic bag with a slide lock on the back cover (I got the idea to make my own too late). We've lost many of the pieces, but this book still hasn't lost it's charm. My kids love to put Maisey to bed at night in her bed & it even helped with my son's nightime routine when he was potty training b/c it has a bathroom complete with a toilet & toilet paper.

I would have bitten my little finger off to have this as a child. I love this, very surprising with all the attention to detail and the sheer amount of things to look at and do in this toy/book. I've paid more for plain books. I immediately went on line to purchase a couple more, because I was so afraid that things would get ruined or lost and then I wouldn't be able to purchase it any more, and I want my daughter to have it for a while (19 months old now, and she's just still a little too rough with the paper). Really fun !

My daughter loves this book. It is a great activity book and keeps her entertained for long periods of time, due to the "playhouse" pop ups. So very cute too. It even comes with a paperdoll Maisy that she can move around from "room" to room. The details are great too...drawers and doors open and there is even a toilet seat. This is a great buy for children who love Maisy!!
