Every day, Bob flies to the moon to pick up the candy wrappers and cans left by astronauts. Sometimes he even entertains the tourist spaceships. Bob thinks he knows everything about the moon, but does he really? Read and find out!

Bartram's text and boldly colored illustrations combine to form a truly funny, entertaining book that will appeal to readers of all ages. The illustrations in particular invite readers to explore the pictures and story in great detail. A surprise can be found on nearly every page, and readers will delight in knowing a secret that Bob has not yet learned.

"Bob has a very strange job he cleans the moon! It's really exciting because when he gets up for work you'll never guess how he gets there--not in a car like my Mummy but by rocket!"

When he has cleaned the moon, he has visitors from earth in the afternoon. There were lots of aliens on the moon and some of them sneak back to earth with him in his rocket at the end of the day.

I didn't really like them because they were hiding on lots of different pages in all strange places. Mummy says they won't hide in my room though as they only know Bob and they're really his friends."

Armchair Interviews says: Man in the Moon is exciting!

Bob, has the most exciting job of anyone I know. He gets up every morning, eats his breakfast and gets into his spaceship for his daily trip to the moon. He has to be there early because his job is to clean the moon and make it ready for the daily influx of visitors from Earth. In between cleaning and welcoming the visitors he sells souvenirs, t-shirts and flags. This is a difficult job but Bob has it down pat. There is some mention of aliens, but we all know aliens don't exist, don't we? There seems to be little green aliens in many of the beautiful pictures, but they are not mentioned and left to our imagination, as they are in real life. At the end of the day, Bob cleans up what he can, climbs into his spaceship and zooms back to earth. He eats his dinner and goes to bed to get ready for a new day of excitement on the moon.

My grandson. Oliver is three and he enjoys this book immensely. His mommy and daddy like to read it to him. It is a book for all ages it appears. It tells a simple story in terms all can enjoy. Much of Bob's life is displayed in the beautiful illustrations throughout the book. However, much of the story of Bob's life is left up to our imagination. Pssst--Have you seen any aliens?

Highly Recommended. prisrob 8-19-08

My children (2 1/2 and 4) insist that I read this book EVERY night before bed time. It's so fabulous. The illustrations are wonderful allowing both boys to find something new to point out each time or find their favorite alien. I enjoy the well written story that appeals to both the adults and children alike. I haven't tired reading it yet. This is a favorite book in our house and has already been purchased for birthday presents for two of the boys' friends. We love Bob!

This is probably going to sound strange, but there is a sweetness to Monica Wellington's simple book that makes me feel as if it were written and illustrated with an abundance of care and love - which makes it that much easier for me to lovingly read and share the book with my baby.

Bunny's Rainbow Day goes from a brilliant dawn to perhaps an afternoon shower and ends, of course, with a rainbow. The cut-out illustrations on each two-page spread are bright and bold, friendly with a touch of funky. Each illustration repeats four elements - a white bunny, rainbow-colored bird, blue butterfly, and red lad bug - which lend themselves for pointing games ("Where's the butterfly?" or "Show me the bunny.") The sparse words are full of imagery ("morning sparkles") and alliteration "plip plop splash") that have a fun, gentle cadence.

My one complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the pages are too long for my baby to hold the book easily (which she likes doing). I imagine she'll outgrow this problem before too long, though.

My daughter loved this book. We started reading it to her when she was about 6 months old. The combination of bright colors, distinctive pictures, cute animals and rhythmic words ensured that this was a hit with her. She would demand that we read this book to her multiple times a day. As she got older, we found that the book was good for "can you point to the bunny" and "who is that" type games. Now that my daughter is 2 1/2, she has pretty much outgrown the book--she wants books with more of a story. However, if you have a small child between the ages of 6 months and 2 years, I would strongly recommend this book for you.

My year-old son and I loved Bunny's First Snowflake. We have read that sooo many times and I went looking for more in the series. Amazon was out of print for Rainbow Day, but I bought from one of their resellers, with great results.

This book is cleverly written, just like Snowflake, the text is suggestive of sounds... woosh, rustle, etc. I'd say I like the illustrations in Snowflake a teensy bit better, but Rainbow day has lots more bright colors and action.

Recommend highly!

What could be more important for children and families to understand than the simple desire which unites us all-- our need for peace-filled communities.
Karen Katz does a lovely job of highlighting our uniquely varied cultural differences, like language, while pulling us together through our common goal for PEACE! This book is a must have for any child growing up on planet Earth.
We have been sharing this story with our children for the past year and both my kids, aged 2 and 3, will now speak out for "peace" in each language while we read! KURTUKU!

My almost 2-year old is very fond of Karen Katz's artwork. We have several of her lift-the-flap books, which are really fun for my daughter and we always enjoy interacting with Karen Katz's "kids". Can You Say Peace offers the same fun, eye-catching artwork that makes Katz's books colorful and unique, but also offers the opporunity to talk about peace on a very basic level with even the littlest kids. I love to hear my daughter imitate me as I say the word "peace" in the various languages in the book and she enjoys the pictures, the words, and the simple story. The last page of the book shows all of the kids from the story together on a 2-page spread and my daughter loves to match each child up with his/her word for peace. Lovely illustrations, lovely message. This is one of our current favorites, and as a mom, I so appreciate the simply presented yet important message!

According to John Coniglio, cats live the life we all wish we did -- a life of care-free slumber and simple pleasures while the busy world rushes by at breakneck speed. You probably can't find a better children's parable for relaxation, calm, and repose than in THE CAT WHO SLEPT ALL DAY. Read this to your kids every night before bed, and they'll sleep long and soundly, just like a kitty cat. Highly recommended!

Concrete Reminders of Faith For Children

Review Date: 2008-07-13
I love that this is an ACTIVE book. Reading daily Scripture, attending Mass are all important parts of faith, but the activities in this book are tangible things to DO with your children.

Reminding them of the Church and their faith though crafts and activities is a concrete way for kids to get involved - and with an activity every day, you'll never run out of ideas.

I'm no super mom, and there's no way I could actually accomplish every activity each and every day - so one of the nicest things about this book is you can pick up on whatever calendar day you happen to be on. No need to go back or feel guilty for missed days, just begin wherever you are.

I criticized what I believe is the newest Ann Ball book for many reasons, not the least of which were the crafts.

This book is all anyone could ask for in an interactive Catholic book.

Each day is either identified as a saint's day or as an ordinary day to be enjoyed with God. There are crafts, recipes, information about plants and herbs, and of course information about each named saint.

So far I've tried two of the recipes, and they were big hits-piroshkies and chicken paprikas.

The best way to use this book would be to check it out over the weekend and see what you and your family could incorporate into the coming week. There's just so much to read about and do, you could cycle this book through many years and never repeat anything (unless you wanted to).

As parents, most of us want to share our faith with our children by teaching, but also by truly living our faith in our homes. This new book by the wonderfully talented Ann Ball will become one of your most used resources in this goal!

Ann Ball shares a project for every day of the year in this great book. Topics included are crafts, recipes related to the liturgical seasons, gardening tips and ideas and much more.

The photos which accompany each project will encourage you to try some new things with your family or students.

Templates and easy to follow directions for the crafts and recipes make this a great resource for crafters and chefs of any experience level. The book is chock full of wonderful stories, information, and lore related to our beautiful Catholic traditions.

This book is one of my new favorites, and I know that you and your family will love it too!

It can get you through the class if you are looking for supplemental material or you can base an entire class or lesson on one of the ideas/traditions found in this book. It is a real great resource for every Director of a Program to have. Some of the traditions would be "lost" if it weren't for this book.

Worth every dime!!! Anita Rui Olds has incredible insight into creating environments that are reflective of children and their interests. She believes that a child care setting should have "spirit." Included are Reggio-type environmental solutions that create a sense of wonder with an architecturally aesthetic sensibility. Lots of great ideas packed into this book. Only regret is that the pictures are too small and not in color. Would have been worth extra [$$] to have an expanded edition.

This is a terrific and necessary resource for anyone involved with the design or renovation of a child care setting. The author has clearly and concisely poured into the book her considerable knowledge and understanding of child care facilities, her passionate beliefs, and her attention to the details of good design. Her knowledge of child development is evident in all of her ideas.

Long awaited, exceeds expectations

Review Date: 2000-12-24
Preeminent authority on design for child care, Anita Rui Olds consummated a lifetime of deep concern and research into the needs of children with the publication of this magnum opus. Lavish use of illustrations--photos, sketches, floor plans, and examples--and attractive layout support Ms. Olds's incisive text to create a remarkably accessible book. Many hundreds of child care professionals and architects who have studied under Ms. Olds will recognize and welcome this work as the summation of the concepts that placed the author at the forefront of her field.

More and more children are in institutional care and, "in search of a model," day care typically happens in society's "leftover" spaces, church basements, warehouses, and places intended for adults. This book will help anyone committed to doing better for our children to "see that young children are raised in nurturing, spirited settings that honor their precious young souls." (from the introduction)

The book's only drawback is technical as the reproduction of photographs is of disappointing quality.

Tragically, Anita Olds did not live to see this book published. We can be thankful that she left it for us, full of her passion for children. In its use we will honor her spirit as we effect her designs.

This must be the best book that exist about designing Child Care Center. It covers everything, but the most important is the focus the autor made on the children. This book is a must for every architect or people interested in design of this kind of buildings, specially if he/she is really interested in children well being.
The only but is that for the quality of its content, this book deserves a better paper and color pictures. (a 0 star here for MacGrow-Hill).
Probably this book is call to change the way a day care is seen today.

I like books in which kids know that discrimination and prejudice is ignorance unlike the adults in their lives. What the Anglos did to the Aboriginals during colonization was so sad and many generations of natives lost their culture and identity as a result of america the greedy and it's nice to know that today's generation of children are aware of the great people natives are instead of covering up their achievements

It tells the truth about women's rights in those days and alot of extra info on the pilgram life that many people didn't know. For some reason, the parents belived this was wrong. Perhaps they got so caught up in turney and stuffing, they forgot the real thankgiving meaning. Being thankful.

I am a history lover, and my opinion is, that when portraing a historical event or time, the two things that are most important, are respect, and accurasie. All Cladua and her friends wanted to do, is create a play accuratly and respectfuly portraning the First Thanksgiving. I would have loved to have seen, or been a part of somthing like the production they put on. I thought it sounded grate. That's why I was so suppriesed and angered bythe parent's reaction to the play. How could they say THAT was unAmerican? JUst becase they where not willing to accsept the truth about an event in America's past, doesn't meen there is anything unAmerican about portraying things as close to what they realy where as possible! On the contrary, I would have said there version of the story was MORE Patriotic then most, becase it showed the Pilgrems for what they realy where: human beings, people, just like you and I. I'm glad that Cladua and her friends stood up for themselves, and didn't let the insdent ruien there holiday. I have alredy given away to much of the story as it is, so I will refrain from saying more. I will close with this final word, though: Try this book. You will appriceate and enjoy this read, for more than one reason.Even if you didn't read BSC's before, or if you stoped reading them, (like I did) you should try this one. Thnk you, Ann M. Claudia and the First Thanksgiving is a better book that what is sounds like. In it Claudia and her Short Takes Class are putting on a modern twist of the First Thanksgiving. They address many views and the parents get really mad. They refuse to let the kids put on the play. So Claudia, Abby, Stacey and the rest of her class have to find a way to get their play back. Also at the end of the book a really special vistor shows up! This is a good bookj and worth the money to buy it. P.S. This book brings back Betsy Sobak, remember from #19 Claudia and the bad joke???

Puppy Love!

Review Date: 2001-01-16
This is a story about when Clifford, the big red dog, was a small puppy. He was tiny compared to his friend, Emily Elizabeth. After he was grown, he towered over her. She asks you, "Guess who always gets the biggest valentine?"

On Clifford's first Valentine's Day, Emily Elizabeth was making valentines for her mother, father, grandma, and grandpa. Clifford wanted to help. Emily Elizabeth gave him some paper. While she used scissors, Clifford used his puppy teeth!

In those days, you glued valentines together with smelly white paste. Clifford starting sniffing, and soon had the paste all over his paws. Then he ran all over the valentines. Eventually, Emily Elizabeth got everything sorted out. Then, she put Clifford into her pocket for a ride to the post office to mail the valentines. The complications really started to multiply there!

But when they all returned safely home, Emily Elizabeth concluded this about Clifford, "He will always be my favorite valentine." Now, that's real love.

One of the many beauties of this story is that Emily Elizabeth acts throughout in a thoughtful responsible way. In doing so, she becomes a good model for what a child should do with a new pet. This includes paying attention to the young animal, playing together, and cleaning up when problems occur. It also means watching out for the pet's safety.

If your young child has been interested in having a pet, this would be a good story to read together. Then you could discuss what the responsibilities are of having a pet, especially a frisky puppy. You can ask your child how she or he would have handled the situations that arise with Clifford in the book. Also, you can talk about how small puppies do grow into large dogs. Will the fun continue then, or does the pet become a parental responsibility then?

Pets can be a wonderful experience for children, and the experience is improved by spending some time first thinking through what is involved in an unemotional way. This book can help your child to do that.

Enjoy giving and receiving love from your children . . . and their pets!

Cliffords first Valentine's Day is a good book. It is best for kids the age of 4-6 because it uses small words. It is also easy for the children to comprehend. Clifford jumps into the mail cart and gets lost in the mail. I would recommend this book to any children interested in books. It is a good book.

Another exciting adventure featuring the small red puppy!

They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books.

What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library?

As you might expect, this book takes us through a day in a firefighter's life. The sentences are short and direct. This makes them easy to read, and it also makes the book more exciting.

The fire in the book (you knew there had to be one) is not especially scary, and is dealt with quickly. More detail is given to the more usual routine - cleaning, taking a class on a tour to talk about fire safety, that sort of thing.

I very much recommend this book for small children.

Well written! Exciting photographs!

Linda Hayward's beginning reader gives children a detailed and fascinating look into the day of a fireman and the job that he does dring a 24 hour shift. There are safety inspections, rescue work, checking all the equipment in the firehouse, etc.

The picture word list in the back of the book is an excellent feature, refreshing the reader's knowledge.

Engaging Story - Great Images

I haven't met a kid yet who didn't have at least a passing interest in firetrucks and firefighters. This book gives curious children a peak into the "real" life of an every day hero. The vocabulary is just right for beginning readers and the images will keep the attention of younger listeners.

This book also serves as a useful tool to speak to your children about fire safety.

Good for younger kids, too

Although these books are intended for young readers, my two-year-old daughter enjoys having them read to her. The language is easy and direct, the connection between words and pictures is very clear, and the short length fits her attention span.

We have about six books from this series, but "A Day in the Life of a Fire Fighter" is her favorite - and she now loves to point out the "Exit" sign and fire extinguisher in any building we visit.

DK books are wonderful

My daughter is 4 1/2 and is beginning to read. The DK books are wonderful and she loves them. The pictures are very good (all DK books are excellently illustrated) and the short stories hold her interest. This series is great in that the reading levels are clearly marked on the book cover, so she knows what to look for when at the library or bookstore.

I also appreciate DK because of their quality binding. Unlike so many other children books, DK uses heavy glossy paper-stock.
