The story in Little Lee Lee's Birthday Bang is very cute. Aimee Bingler's illustrations really made the characters come to life! My little nieces and nephews were mesmerized by the pictures. I hope that Dingles and Bingler collaborate on another Little Lee Lee book soon.

"Lulu's Birthday" combines a story by Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard with illustrations by Pat Cummings. The book includes a short author biography which notes that the title character is based on Howard's real-life great-aunt.

The book is about Laurie and J. Matthew, two youngsters who have been spending the summer with an older woman named Lulu. Together, they all plan to celebrate Lulu's birthday. The book is full of colorful illustrations; Cummings does an effective job of depicting the images in the characters' imaginations as they plan the party.

Another gem from Suskind

I don't know how to describe the contents of this tiny book but more it's effects on me. Suskind is one of those rare authors who, when you read him seems normal enough but his writing stays with you, changing how you see the world. This book is written by Maitre Mussard on his death bed as he feels the need to share his knowledge about the world. I won't ruin his bizarre theory for the reader but it's an interesting read, only 49 small pages if I remember right.

Manuela's Birthday..A Must Read Book for All Ages
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-24
Manuela is turning five. She lives in a small village near the capital city of Mexico. There, she is befriended by two American artists residing in the village. The artists are beguiled by the little girl and when Manuela's birthday arrives, they set out to make her a special doll that Manuela had seen in Mexico City. The doll is unlike anything she has ever seen. Accustomed to her ethnic dolls of Mexico, she is in wonder of the blond haired, blue eyed doll. The village children bring flowers to Manuela's house and her doting parents present her with a baby burro. The artists however, are in a quandry because they are unable to find a doll with blond hair and blue eyes. They then set out to purchase materials to make their friend her dream doll. It is a labor of love for the artists as they finally present the lovely doll to Manuela. Wearing a pair green-shaded sunglasses (a present from her father) she mistakenly thinks the doll's hair is green but is satisfied with the present anyway. She finally removes the glasses and realizes what the artists have done for her. She wraps her new doll in her rebozo and the American artists paint a portrait of Manuela with all of her presents. They call the portrait a "recuerdo". Charming story and illustrations. Multi-cultural friendship story.

Wonderful

This is a storybook version of the episode of Fraggle Rock called "Marooned." It is very intelligently written, with far more words than pictures. The illustrations are beautifully done, and the story is touching. The intelligent narration augments rather than detracts from the original TV script. Very young kids would probably be daunted by the lengthy text, but any Fraggle lover aged nine or ten and older (even adults who grew up with the Fraggles) will love this book. The story deals with the idea of our own mortality in a wonderful way, getting just serious enough to get its point across without seeming saccharine or avoiding using the word "death." Five stars!

Definitely another excellent addition to books and etc....
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.

My three year old daughter just recieved this book yesterday ...and she pretty much knows the story line concept of the whole book because we own the " Meet Strawberry Shortcake" DVD as well too which is about the same thing. Basically Strawberry Shortcake is having a birthday party for her little sister Apple Dumplin and they make a list of supplies that they need to go and purchase for the party such as juice, cookies, cake, hats and etc... Along the way they meet new friends such as Orange Blossom and Honey pie the pony who helps them find their way to where they need to go to. They get to go and visit the cookie factory and help bake Apple Dumplins cake and when they arrive home all of their new friends they made along the way on their trip show up to the party! Definitely a good book. Only complaint is that I wish the pages were a little thicker and a little more durable even though ours is still in good condition, but my daughter happens to be kind of rough on books! Over all though is it definitely worth the price... She loves her Strawberry Shortcake!
