I work in a bookstore and I have been keeping my eye on this book because it looked so fun just from the cover. Finally I
opened it and read the book. I thought it was great! The story was fun. I think my favorite part were all the pop-ups especially
the one where they dance. It is a great book for people of all ages! I highly recommend it.

This is really the story of Raspberry Tart and how she thought everyone had forgotten her birthday. She's not exactly perfect.
When she has asked only 1 friend to play with her and is rebuffed, she uses a sharp tone of voice with the 2nd friend who
says no. This is a topic for discussion. My kids said she should have been nicer. Later on in the day, of course, there is
a surprise party, so Raspberry Tart is happy. My boy/girl twins love this book. There are about 4-5 paragraphs on each page,
so they have to use their imagination for most of the narration.

I love how the anticipation builds up in this book, as Dora and friends prepare for Isa's surprise party. My 16 month old
daughter has had this book for about 4 months, and she continues to like it more and more. She gets excited when Isa comes
through the door and then again when the pinata breaks. Like other Dora books, a little bit of spanish is incorporated, and
Dora asks questions. There are so many objects for children to point out in all the Dora books.
Great book for 1 year olds.

My daughter had The Surprise Party and A Day at the Beach since she was 6 months old. She's now 13 months old. We lost "A
Day at the Beach" because we were carrying the two books everywhere with us. The Surprise Party is in shreds from reading
it over and over again. She loves the story, point out the characters and different items in the book, like hats and baloons.
Most of all she loves to yell "Surprise, Happy Birthday Isa!" and clap when it's time. Even though this book is always out
and available she never lost interest in it. We always carry it with us in the car and at restaurants.

Taylor's Birthday Party is a charming children's picturebook about the treasure that is true friendship. Baker and Taylor
are two anthropomorphic cats and best friends. Taylor's birthday is coming, so Baker decides to throw a special surprise party.
But there are so many tasks to perform; one disaster strikes after another. Ultimately Baker learns that no matter what went
wrong in the execution of the party, it's the effort, love, and hard work that matter most. As a special bonus, young people
can hunt through the colorful pictures to discover eight mice hiding in the pages. An upbeat story, good for parents to share
with children or for young people to discover on their own.

This book is a pleasure to read. First off the author bases the book in the U.P. of Michigan. If you've never been up there
it is God's country. As the plot of the story states there are no malls around the corner. I love the fact that the kids have
to think and be creative on what to give/make mom for her birthday. It is a refreshing concept! The illustrations are very
sweet and relay the innocence of the children. What a great book to read aloud to your kids and have a project to make! The
back of the book shows how to make the birdhouse shown in the book. My kids already are making plans to make one!

This story is very heart warming. It's the kind of book that you want to curl up together with your kids and read it out loud!
As an added bonus, there is a challenge word on every page to expand your child's vocabulary. This book will become a family
favorite for sure!
I also liked the fact that you can get an audio version from the publisher using the information in the back of the book!
You won't be disappointed if you buy this book!

My kindergartner loves this book. We read it every night. She is learning basic addition without even realizing it. I also
love that the animals are mostly from Australia including dingos, kangaroos and platypuses.

This whimsical book leads the reader from a discussion of how an adopted child has two birthdays to the more serious topic
of what it means to be adopted. Beth waits and waits for her "real" birthday, the day she was adopted, but her mother explains
that everyone has only one birthday, and that birthdays aren't really that important. What matters is how people feel about
one another. Beth's mother says, "I don't love you because you're adopted. I love you because you're Beth." Beth responds
by creating a heart-shaped card for her mother. Her picture is on one half, her mother's on the other. Beth says, "Together
we make a heart. Together we make a family. Every day. That's what being adopted means." The light verse and simple vocabulary
will engage young pre-readers and older readers will enjoy and identify with the story. The open exchanges between Beth
and her mother can be a starting point to encourage dialogue between children, parents and members of the extended family.

Far Ranging Essays for People Serious About Music

Review Date: 2008-11-28
Mr. Curry, Mr. Gable, and Mr. Marshall have drawn on their life interests, as well as a wide circle of musicologists to assemble
this far-ranging series of essays that probe deeply into the form and thought behind the works of important composers, from
Bach to Boulez. An example of the "out-of-the-box" nature of these esssays is Essay 14, "Words for the Surface: Boulez, Stockhausen
and `Allover' Painting," this essay is very intriguing in its synthesis of painting and music.
These essays are amply illustrated with pertinent fragments of scores and manuscripts, and are directed at the serious musician. Any musician, or person who is interested in the form and structure of what he hears, or is especially interested in the thought behind several of the more important works of modernist composers, such as Boulez, and the relationship of these modernist ideas to the ideas of the classical and romantic period composers will be well rewarded by sampling the essays in this book.

wow! i have been searching for this book for ages! i can't wait to read it again. i have vivid memories of the super-brill
illustrations that while sometimes horrifying, always intrigued me for hours. if my memory serves me correctly, there was
a particularly fascinating picture of rats choking on bubblegum pancakes...but don't let this scare you away! i was a very
sensitive child, and still adored this book. its story is easy to relate to at any age...we all have experienced that moment
when our imagination runs ridiculously wild...and of course, despite the panic, it all works out in the end. i must have read
this book a zillion times, and though that was about 20 years ago, i'm positive it would be a favorite today. this book is
worthy of modern classic status!

I read this book as a child, and it is still as wonderful! Just as always Kellogg keeps you hooked. It's about a little girl
that can't find anyone to play with. She goes from door to door, but no one will play with her. She can here them inside,
but no one will come out. She thinks about all the fun she will have with out them. Her imagination runs away with her and
Kellogg does a great job illustrating it. At the end it all turns out well. A must have for anybody that has children-or
an imagination!
