Birthdays Books

My 5 year old is a huge Lazytown fan. He loved the book and it taught a great lesson about sharing and friendship. I bought more Lazytown books since this one was such a hit.

My five year old loves the book and we read it night after night together before bed.

This book has my name in it 7 times. Because of that, I consider it to be a great book. It's well written too!...

This is a great little book for kids. It is a nice warm and fuzzy story with a happy ending.

Everyone I have told about it, that got it really loved it.

This was a really good book from the Magic Attic Club series. In fact, I think it was even a little better than The Ghost of Camp Withering Pines! Everyone should read it if they want a book with adventure!

My daughter absolutley loves Junie B. Jones, so I thought these cassettes would be great for long car rides. The first thing that I got a kick out of is Lana Quintel's voice--she is just perfect as Junie. She's got a little-girlish, slightly nervous tone, which really fits. Some audio stories can really bore you to tears, which is bad for the adult driving the car, but these keep you listening and aware.
The story lines really fit for young kids (older 5's+), since Junie has to get through typical situations like loose teeth, "boyfriends", self-inflicted hair cuts, etc.
Some of the books show Junie's more obnoxious, negative self, so I just avoid them and go for the cuter stories.

I have been reading the Junie B. Jones collection to my kindergarten class from the beginning of the school year. They absolutely love the collection. At times I have found the language inappropriate for kindergarten. I have chosen to change some of the words as I read. The children do not realize and the books still remain enjoyable and fun. Barbara Park is a great author and has truley captured the uniqueness of a child's kindergarten career. All books are HIghly remcommended. I tried to keep this book until the last day of school when my students would have officially been first graders. They wouldn't let me. One of my students brought the book from home and we finished it in two sittings. Junie B. Jones First Grader at Last is a great book to read to the child who is anxious about first grade and the changes that my come with growing up.

This is a lovely addition to any Katie Morag collection, containing a different birthday for members of her family for each month of the year. Your child will learn more about the relationships between the characters and also about the calendar. Also includes crafts and recipies. Would make a great gift for a child's birthday. Best for someone who is already familiar with the other Katie Morag books, since it doesn't really have stories, just a page for each person, but might make a fun introduction. The same lovely, detailed and atmospheric drawings of the imaginary Scottish island of Struay.

Birthday celebrations on the Isle of Struay are always fun, but Katie's birthday is especially exciting to her. She's desperate for her special day to happen, but there are others' birthdays before it, each to be celebrated with a special theme or event. Kids with basic reading skills will find the bright drawings and whimsical birthday events of Katie Morag And The Birthdays to be a fun and engaging read.

King Joe's Birthday Celebration is great for teaching children about the calender as well as giving an understanding to the passage of time.
It also leads into the complicated world of money, but keeps it simple and fun to follow while teaching the value of coins and dollars.
I found time and money to be the best sections of this book because they are the ones used most in life, but all of the other topics taught are done so in an amazing manner as well.
I would suggest this book to any parent or teacher to help introduce a child to the world of numbers.

I have read the first two books in the King Joe series to my kindergartener and she just loves them! The King Joe series teaches mathematical vocabulary as well as the uses for the same. The characters really make the stories come to life! I think that all second graders in North America should have access to King Joe!

This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have ever seen. I love the gorgeous illustrative techniques in the book- the combination of drawing/paint and collage of photos of actual fabrics for the characters' clothes, the real photo of stamp used in the picture frame, etc. The book is full of girl characters who are active: scooping, piling, dumping, mounding, buying oatmeal, using imagination. Two spunky elderly ladies who travel far to celebrate their sister's birthday. Beautiful interaction between generations, and nice message about community.

Andrea Cheng does a delightful job of taking a topic that is sometimes "scary" for children--that of the elderly. She shows the world from two points of view and then bridges those worlds in a touching, gentle way. Just when you think this might have a pitiful ending, there's a fun twist that leaves the reader deeply satisfied. A wonderful read that any children with an aging neighbor, relative, or grandparent will want to read again and again.

I bought this book for my daughter a few months before she turned 2, and it became her absolute favorite leading up to her 2nd birthday. She loved lifting the flaps and calling out the answers to the questions posed by Little Bill's family. This is the best by far of the three Little Bill books we own.

If you like Little Bill, then you will love this lift the flap story. Children will like the friendly faces as well as the interactive nature of the flaps. Parents will like the theme that while we wish for great things, we can also be content with what we have.

These are wonderful little books. Just the right size for little hands to hold.
The illustrations are brightly coloured and funny.
They're great for early readers and fun for adults too.
They are written in the UK, so an occasional explanation for certain words maybe necessary, but doesn't detract from the stories?

Just started collecting these for our two kids. They are adorable and are small so easy to store without creating much clutter.

This was a book I had, read to my children, and wanted to read to my grandson. Book was in excellent condition.

Anyone who has ever had a birthday party as a child will be swept back to the excitement, the fears and the adventure of their first parties through the eyes of Lyle the Crocodile. Endearing and touching, any child (or adult) will lose themselves in this book. I write from memory-my mother read the Lyle books to me when I was four years old and they have stayed alive for me ever since. My sisters and myself are now buying them for our families.
