Beautiful Book at a Wonderful Price

I am VERY pleased with this book. It is a beautiful hardcover book with bright, crisp color printing and a simple story. There is about one sentence per page, so it's a good choice for toddlers on up. My 6-year old sat and read it cover to cover immediately. Jerry Pallotta is a terrific writer and makes the most of this short tale.

The story line is about Santa looking for helpers. He tries dragons (the toys get cooked), fairies (they leave glitter everywhere), Bigfoot (only one toe fits through the door), mummies (only good at wrapping), leprechauns (too busy chasing rainbows), gnomes (too fond of vegetables), mermaids (toys got soaked), aliens (only made spaceships and never heard of Christmas), unicorns (with hooves they couldn't hold the tools), wizards (they turn Santa into a frog), and finally elves.

David Biedrzycki's illustrations are positively luminous and bright, and there are many humorous touches. All in all this is a terrific book, especially for the money.

I LOVE THE EYE CANDY & STORY TOO!

Joshua's Wild Christmas is the book every young adult reader has been waiting for! Wild Christmas is a wild combination of humor and suspense that takes you from the daily struggles of Hawkins High School to the wonders of the North Pole. Wild Christmas has multiple stories lines that cleverly and purposefully are woven together. While entertaining and taking anyone away on an adventure, Wild Christmas speaks important messages on jealousy, friendship, and finding purpose in the midst of struggles. Once this book is in your hands, you won't be able to put it down. Once you are finished, you'll have a smile on your face and be thirsty to read more!

Lovely and Charming in a throroughly British sort of way!

I love the Willow books. They are so charming, and sweet, and gentle. The watercolour illustrations too are soft and muted and downright adorable. Especially this Christmas story contains some pictures so sweet and pretty I'd like to frame them!

These books are perfect for a soothing, quiet story before bedtime--I would recommmend them for 3 to 6 year olds.

If you like stories with a delicious British flavour--like Wind in the Willows or The Hobbit--then you will definitely love these delightful picture books, in which Willow lives "on Paradise Farm, at the bottom of Appleby Downs".

Picked up this sweet and gentle holiday book last year to share with my then 7 year old daughter. We both LOVED it! Willow and his friend, Little Pig Pink live on quiet Paradise Farm where they celebrate a beautiful sweet and giving Christmas with friends and farm animals. Colorful darling pictures and whimsical scenes with farm animals in their holiday best are so fun. This is a quiet story with a calming effect, perfect for bedtime. Enjoy!

Good reading skills or parental read-aloud assistance will be required for this chapter from Grahme's classic Wind In The Willows: it tells of friendship and a holiday homecoming as Mole transforms Mole End to a haven of earth and cheer. Hague's beautiful paintings embellish the spirited story.

A new twist on a classic

If you can never remember the words to the classic carol, this is a great book. It is wonderfully illustrated depicting two bears in the woods. Everyday they dance and move thru the 12 days of Christmas until they eventually marry. The pictures have all the classic characters in the song, ex. lords-a-leaping, swans-a-swimming etc. It will leave you singing all day, "And a partridge in a pear tree!" Great for reading aloud and getting into the holiday season.

Lyrical, beautiful and heart-warming Christmas book

Frances Tyrrell has created a beautiful Christmas book using the Twelve Days of Christmas song as her inspiration. The captions of the bear couple are endearing as they proceed through the courtship ritual and eventually marry. These are exquisite illustrations - delicately drawn and painted - and the whole captures the joy and celebration of the season - here, appropriately set in the North Woods. I love this book for its details (I'm constantly seeing new things in the pictures), its spirit and warmth. Highly, highly recommended.

I haven't recieved it yet, but I can't wait to read it. I just ordered a bunch of books as Christmas presents. I know the author personally and if the book is anything like the person , it will be a "must have" for inspirational and spiritual reading.

I intended to read just one story at a time, but simply couldn't put this book down. I'm now ready to go back and do the study questions...this book is not only inpsirational, it also gives practical applications for Christian living in a very materialistic Christmas season.

A challenge to a student's elementary-level Latin knowledge
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-18
It's going to be hard to peg this but small but elegant picturebook, which looks like a child's reader but contains an all-Latin version of Church's story, translated by Walter Sauer and Hermann Wiegand and illustrated by Matthias Kringe. Suffice it to say that students of Latin - of all ages - will find Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus - In Latin! both whimsical and a challenge to a student's elementary-level Latin knowledge. A fun little book.

Perfect Story to Share

At times, we all need to remember the magic of wonder and faith in what we cannot see. Even the Classical authors contemplated the truth of the unknown. This Christmas classic translated into Latin combines a beautiful story with the language of ancient philosophers. And, it's a perfect introduction to abstract ideas-love, generosity, truth, beauty, transcendental reality-that are the basis of human interaction.

Complete with a full glossary of words, the book is approachable to any past, present, or future student of Latin. For those who are not familiar with the language at all, the Latin text is followed by the English translation side-by-side with the Latin reproduced. Moreover, the book encourages its readers to recall their own special Christmas memories on blank pages left especially for this purpose at the end of the book. Perfect as a gift for any loved one, Yes, Virginia is beautifully illustrated, wonderfully told, and lovingly shared.

This book tells what it would have been like if Christ came in modern times.I think everyone should own this book.It makes you feel like you were really there and knew Christ yourself. It shows how some people followed him and hung on his every word and how others despised him.It is a great book for both new Christians and old,and it makes a great gift for an unbeliever

This is a wonderful book!

I came upon this book quite by chance, and have not read any other by this author. If any of her many other works are as wonderful and insightful as this, I won't hesitate to obtain some of her other stories! This is the story of Christ Jesus with a strange twist. It is set in the late 1800's. Mrs. Alden writes this story as if HE hadn't come until then and portrays the public reaction as she believes it would have been in that time which is startlingly similar to the reactions when it really happened. If you think about what your reaction would be if God's Son showed up in your town in a quiet and unassuming way, what kind of faith and belief would you have? In this day and age, we have come to expect grand, magnificent gestures before we believe something momentous is happening. This is a story that shows us how little things have changed. The nature or spirit of man is still to a great extent residing in darkness away from the light of God..

A Cherished Family Tradition

Review Date: 2005-12-28
Our family has enjoyed sharing this book with each other every Christmas for the past 10 years. We carefully pull our signed copy off the shelf 12 days before Christmas and read a chapter every night until Christmas arrives. The story is enchanting as it gently invokes themes such as selflessness, realizing the need and asking for forgiveness, the need to be loved and have someone or something to love, respect among all of God's creation, and sacrificial giving that renders true joy; bringing a wholly more authentic and heartwarming perception of Santa than the usual red suit and red nosed reindeer. Highly recommended!

PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE READ ON THE SUBJECT OF CHRISTMAS
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-19
This book is pretty much what the title indicates. Just about everything you would want to know about Christmas and about Christmas in about 37 different countries. It covers everthing from the original tradition to foods, plant legends, decorations, old wives tales and much much more. The book is quite well reasearched and quite well written and organized. This one has been around since around 1937 which tells you a lot. For the Christmas lover, or the just plain curious, this is the one for you. Highly recommend this one.
